as a technical writer-contract focused on engineering knowledge documentation, you'll transform our deep technical knowledge-sharing sessions-live or recorded-into clear, structured documentation. you'll work closely with our principal engineers, sre team, and ai/backend developers to capture architecture overviews, code walkthroughs, runbooks, and feature guides.
key responsibilities
- capture & analyze recordings
- review video/audio recordings of technical workshops, code demos, and deep-dive sessions
- leverage transcripts or ai-assisted tools to extract key concepts, code snippets, and process steps
- create high-quality documentation
- produce architecture diagrams, end-to-end walkthroughs, runbooks, api overviews, and how-tos in google docs or markdown
- organize content into logical sections with clear headings, summaries, prerequisites, steps, and troubleshooting tips
- collaborate with engineers
- interview session speakers and attendees to clarify ambiguities and fill in gaps
- validate technical accuracy by reviewing drafts with subject-matter experts
- maintain & enhance knowledge base
- maintain and organize our central documentation repository
- update earlier recordings into the same format and style
- standardize documentation processes
- define templates, style guides, and naming conventions
- recommend tooling for transcription, diagramming (e.g. miro, mermaid, lucidchart), and version control
must-have qualifications
- 3+ years of technical writing experience supporting software engineering teams
- strong understanding of software development concepts (apis, microservices, ci/cd, iac)
- familiarity with python/django, go, aws services, and ai/ml pipelines enough to parse code walkthroughs
- proven ability to turn recorded or live technical sessions into clear, concise written docs
- excellent written and verbal english communication skills
- experience with documentation tools and formats (google docs, markdown/readthedocs)
- comfortable using transcription tools and basic screenshot/video-capture utilities
nice-to-have
- background in computer science, engineering, or related technical field
- experience documenting devops/sre runbooks, infrastructure diagrams, or data-ops pipelines
- familiarity with diagramming tools (miro, mermaid, lucidchart) and embedding code samples
- prior exposure to ai-assisted writing or summarization tools (e.g., github copilot, chatgpt)
- experience working in agile/scrum environments and using jira or asana for task tracking
