What Commercial Technologies Software Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Commercial Technologies manages the enterprise's portfolio of commercial technologies to maximize the business value of the technologies and enhance customer experience. This function creates strategies for the portfolio and innovative solutions based on relationships with business leaders, develops back-end solutions and capabilities, and improves the front-end experience.

Commercial Technologies Software Engineering develops design options, process improvements and back-end solutions for commercial technologies to maximize performance and suitability for business needs. This job family manages engineering projects and plans for commercial technologies and interfaces with product managers to develop objectives. This job family assesses product systems, identifies opportunities for process and system improvements, and develops solutions through application of engineering principles.

The Implementation team is part of many diverse and dependent workstreams that enable and support client program implementations for Sonexus Patient and Access Support Services on a customized Salesforce Platform and hybrid solutions. This role will be a full stack .NET developer within the implementation team, this team will have applications that interface with salesforce and other COTS products we support.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting applications, systems and IT products required to achieve business objectives.

  • Plans and executes software and system implementations that ensure success and minimize risk of system outages or other negative production impacts.

  • Demonstrates problem solving ability that allows for effective and timely resolution of system issues including but not limited to production outages.

  • Analyze production system operations using tools such as monitoring, capacity analysis and outage root cause analysis to identify and drive change to ensure continuous improvement in system stability and performance.

  • Provide technical guidance to managed service partners.

  • Participate in code and design planning/reviews to ensure industry standards and best practices are being met

  • Design & customize technological systems and platforms to improve customer experience

  • Analyze the value and risks of technology to advise and suggest actions

  • Ensure aligned objectives and execution across internal stakeholders to create mutually beneficial partnerships to identify areas of growth and innovation

  • Advise on short and long term technology and growth planning

  • Ensure product and services are compliant with company's policies

  • Must be able to define tasks, milestones, and deliverables that meet stated project objectives

  • Independently determines method for completion of new projects

  • Excellent communication, analytical presentation skills, problem solving skills and learning attitude

  • Reference architectures and standards definition to guide implementation teams and promote standardization, and enterprise reuse where applicable

  • Partner with implementation teams on selecting the appropriate solution components that align with team standards while also meeting the requirements of the program

  • Partner with shared service teams such as Risk and Security to ensure systems are secure and proper controls are implemented

  • Serve as an escalation point for complex functional and technical issues

  • Provide end-to-end views on how all components fit together

  • "Connecting dots" across various business and technology areas

Qualifications

  • 4-8 years of experience, preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred

  • Experience in Angular, .net/c#, azure, SQL programming, MongoDB, logicapps, kafka, Camunda, Apigee, swagger, postman.

  • Experience with Salesforce development is a plus

  • Experience in designing, building, deploying, managing, and enhancing applications within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes including requirement analysis and system design, and/or software engineering principles

  • Experience in Agile development

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Concourse, Jenkins

  • Working experience translating business objectives into technology plans

  • Strong understanding of infrastructure platforms such as operating systems, databases, application servers, cloud.

  • Strong understanding of industry trends and relevant emerging technologies

Principal Engineer, Full Stack

Overview

Job Purpose

The Principal Engineer, Full Stack role will design, build, and maintain full stack (Java/.NET) and Angular, React, Node, etc. applications for the organization. This role will work through the full software development life cycle (SDLC) and may have a focus in an Agile environment. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for the development of enterprise applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full stack (Java/.NET) design and development of projects involving application development, migrations, and additions to existing applications.
  • Develop front end applications utilizing React, Angular, Nodejs, etc. in close accord with a UX team and ensures the responsiveness of those applications.
  • Design and develop APIs necessary to affect front end functionality and/or be consumed by other partners.
  • Design and create data models for applications and databases to persist them.
  • Participate in software design meetings and analyzes user needs to determine technical requirements.
  • Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements.
  • Develop and/or review development of test protocols for testing application before user acceptance with an emphasis on automated Unit Tests, Component Tests, and Scenario Tests.
  • Complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
  • May mentor or guide work of less experienced software development staff.
  • Remain current on industry standards in web development.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience that is required for the specific job level
  • Experience working with Java development technologies such
  • Experience with frameworks such as server side (.Net Core, .Net)
  • Experience with modern front end technologies such as React or Angular a plus
  • Experience with RESTful service development and working with microservices applications a plus
  • Experience with OpenShift Container Platform a plus
  • Experience working with applications in the cloud such as AWS or Azure a plus
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines a plus
  • Familiarity with source code management tools such as Azure DevOps, TFS, Jira or Git a plus
  • Proficiency with development technique such as Test Driven Development, Unit Tests, Component Tests and/or Scenario Tests a plus

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple development teams spanning backend microservices (Java), mobile (Flutter), web, QA automation, and AWS-based platform engineering. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, mentoring technical teams, and ensuring architectural excellence across a modern, AI-native engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Oversight
    • Own the technical direction and design integrity across our full-stack ecosystem, adhering to company-wide Architecture Standards .
    • Guide the evolution of modular, scalable, and testable Java microservices, Flutter mobile apps, and modern web applications.
    • Act as a gatekeeper and champion of architectural best practices, code quality, and technical debt management.
  • Cross-Team Leadership
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to multiple teams across disciplines including:
      • Backend: Java + Spring Boot microservices on AWS Fargate/EKS.
      • Frontend: Flutter mobile (Dart), Ionic/Angular, and modern web.
      • QA Automation: CI-integrated, AI-enhanced testing pipelines (e.g., Playwright, Xray, Copilot).
      • Platform: AWS infrastructure (VPC, ECS, RDS, Cognito, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch).
    • Ensure alignment on coding practices, API design, security, and DevSecOps processes.
  • AI-Integrated Development
    • Promote adoption of AI-first workflows including use of GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Devin for scaffolding, testing, and code reviews.
    • Drive automation across CI/CD, story-to-code generation, and platform provisioning.
  • Collaboration & Influence
    • Work closely with Product, UX, and Engineering leads to drive design and delivery decisions.
    • Represent engineering in Architecture Review Board (ARB) meetings and promote alignment across teams and stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • Technical Mastery:
    • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
    • Deep expertise in Java (Spring Boot) microservices and AWS Cloud Architecture.
    • Strong experience with Flutter/Dart and modern web development.
    • Familiarity with WSO2 API Manager, Cognito, IAM, Kafka, and GitOps practices.
  • Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Experience mentoring engineers and leading through influence in a multi-team environment.
    • Ability to context switch across domains and provide useful feedback at every layer of the stack.
  • Architectural Thinking:
    • Proven ability to scale systems and enforce modularity, observability, security, and maintainability.
    • Experience enforcing architecture standards across distributed teams.
  • AI/Automation Savvy:
    • Comfortable integrating and evangelizing AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Devin) into engineering workflows.
    • Experience leveraging automation across testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Communication:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in translating technical direction to diverse audiences.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position in the US is $154,000 to $190,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

Job Purpose
