job summary:
the data center technician plays a vital role in maintaining and supporting critical systems in an active data center environment. this individual performs preventative maintenance, vendor escorting, and technical troubleshooting across hvac and electrical systems. the role demands reliability, safety awareness, and a strong understanding of environmental systems critical to uninterrupted data center operation.

key responsibilities:
perform daily site inspections on mep systems and address any operational abnormalities.
respond to building management system (bms) alarms and carry out emergency maintenance.
complete scheduled preventative maintenance (pm) and repair activities on hvac and other systems.
escort vendors and supervise third-party work to ensure compliance with safety and service agreements.
conduct shift rounds and record meter readings for ups, pdu, and utility equipment.
deliver customer support and maintain clear communication with leadership and teammates.
document all maintenance activities and ensure audit readiness.
participate in bi-weekly on-call rotation and respond to after-hours support as needed.
required experience:
1-2 years of experience in data center, hvac, or critical environment maintenance
high school diploma or equivalent
trade school may substitute for some experience
nice-to-have experience:
military background in critical environments
prior experience with cbre systems or similar data center operations
required skills:
hvac expertise - including understanding the theory of air conditioning and direct expansion systems
lockout/tagout safety protocol knowledge
ability to read one-line diagrams and schematics
strong attention to detail and communication skills
customer service mindset
preferred skills:
epa certification (preferred)
electrician license (preferred)
familiarity with critical switching procedures and controls systems
microsoft office: excel, word, outlook
building management system (bms) familiarity
