The role

Reporting into the Group Reporting Manager, this is an exciting opportunity for a PQ or newly qualified Accountant to join a high performing team where you will influence multiple senior stakeholders.

You will be rewarded wit support to professional development whilst gaining on the job training by your manager and the team to upskill in accounting standards and be exposed to ad hoc projects.

Key accountabilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts, KPIs and financial supplements for Group of Companies
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly consolidation, liaising with other finance teams and IT support as required
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly accounting entries to record the financial results of the MGAs, including consolidation adjustments, minority interest calculations and the annual VIE assessments.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Group US GAAP financial statements
  • Assist with the coordination and production of the financial statements of the Group.
  • Assist with the coordination and work with auditors to prepare the VAT and CT entity returns.
  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly reporting timetable to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Draft accounting papers supporting the financial statement preparation and interpret new accounting standards and draft papers summarizing their impact on the Group
  • Assist with the preparation and posting of certain transactions including share-based payments, as well as discussing new transactions with relevant accounting teams.
  • Ownership of historical financial numbers, providing input & support to other teams where necessary
  • Assist in the preparation of benchmarking financial performance against peer group
  • Assist with internal and external audit providing information as requested, responding to queries, ensuring operation of financial reporting controls, and effectively supporting the overall audit processes
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and procedures documentation
  • Keep the Group Reporting Manager fully informed of the status of the projects assigned, as well as relevant accounting-related issues that may arise from such projects
  • Ad hoc projects as required

Skills & experience

  • Newly qualified or nearly qualified towards professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience preferably gained in an insurance/reinsurance environment
  • Knowledge and experience of US GAAP for insurance accounting
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting software (experience with Aqilla or Anaplan preferred but not required)
  • Experience of WDesk preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of applications
  • Proven financial, analytical and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the finance team and other key stakeholders across different functions within the organisation

Responsibilities
  • Leading the Engineering teams: Lead the team to delivery, monitoring performance, facilitating growth and ensure the team to achieve the targeted objectives.

  • Conducting risk assessments: Conduct risk assessments & complexity assessments to anticipate potential project challenges. Identifying risks early ensures that we can develop mitigation strategies and ensure a project's success.
  • Implementing technical regulatory standards: Engineering managers enforce technical standards to maintain quality and consistency across projects.
  • Finding solutions for technical issues: When technical problems arise, lead in finding viable solutions. Utilise understanding of systems to help identify issues and devise efficient solutions.
  • Staff Development: Assess and monitoring the performance of staff on the project and provide feedback to the UK Capability Leads and People Services Manager.
Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree/Diploma would be advantageous (beneficial IPMA/Prince/APM/PMI qualified)

  • Playing a key role in the annual planning and budgeting process in collaboration with the Director of Strategy & Transformation.
  • Overseeing the preparation of timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis for Executive Team and Board.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong leadership skills and well-developed people management skills.
  • An ACA, CIMA or ACCA qualification
  • A proven understanding of Business Partnering within Finance, how to embed this approach and the benefits this brings
  • The ability to budget and forecast at an organisational level including understanding and mitigating risks

Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in a related field such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts, especially in finance
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong experience in financial markets, risk management and time series analysis.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in a quantitative role in a financial services company
  • Experience with financial modelling or in the financial industry is a must
  • Background in equity or credit preferred
  • Full stack development or Secdb/Slang experience preferred
