job description: director of athletics
salary range: $105,000 - $125,000the director of athletics will have administrative oversight of all facets of the division iii athletic program at beloit college. the director of athletics is expected to build an exceptional diii program by providing the best possible environment for student-athletes for competition, learning, and community service. the director of athletics will be a member of senior staff working directly with college leaders to meet athletics' and the college's strategic goals, including:
working with the enrollment team to meet recruitment goals,collaborate with the advancement team to fundraise for athletics and, partner with academic and student affairs for an immersive and rewarding student-athlete experience in the beloit college community.
the director of athletics will guide and mentor coaches and staff with an emphasis on open communication and collaboration, demonstrating an unwavering focus on the best interests of student-athletes. the director will articulate and lead the athletics department's vision, strategy, and role in the college's success.the director of athletics reports to the vp of enrollment & marketing with dotted line reporting to the president.
duties and responsibilitiesbuild winning, successful teams.manage the athletic department, external relations and revenue generating departments, a member of senior staff, and sport supervision.develop and communicate a strategic vision for the athletics department within the framework of the college's strategic plan.direct supervision of all personnel and coaching staff.establish and meet recruiting goals for each team/coach.recruit, hire, supervise, develop, evaluate, and retain talented coaches and staff.provide leadership, organizational structure, and professional development for coaches and staff to further enhance a quality athletic program.ensure a safe and supportive environment for student-athletes' health and well-being.work collaboratively with the dean of students, chief of staff and team to promote athletics on campus and in the community as part of creating a vibrant student and community experience.work collaboratively with the advancement and alumni engagement for major gifts, endowments, annual giving, 1889 council, sports specific giving, estate and planned giving opportunities, reporting, and all policies and procedures relating to donations.oversee event and facility management, including scheduling, revenue generation, staffing, and community engagement.provide service excellence in all areas.provide comprehensive support to student-athletes, ensuring their academic success, athletic performance, and overall well-being.collaborate with institutional partners to create programmatic and educational opportunities for student-athletes that focus on personal, academic, and athletic success.ensure compliance with all ncaa, mwc, nacc, wiac and the college's regulations and policies.knowledge of and experience with title ix.deliver strong and proactive leadership in developing and implementing the department's strategic plan, aligning it with the college's mission, values, and strategic plan and goals.build and sustain strong relationships with college leadership. collaborates with enrollment & marketing and advancement to create, design, integrate, and execute initiatives and special projects for recruitment, retention, and fundraising efforts; maximizes all channels of communication and assists with potential sponsorships.oversee all athletics-related activities, equipment, and facilities. develops staff and sets clear performance expectations and metrics; delegates responsibility and accountability as appropriate.develop ongoing assessments and evaluations of athletics programs to guide future planning and resource allocation.prepare budgets for athletic programs and allocate funds accordingly.build and maintain relationships with community partners in the greater beloit community and the surrounding area. other duties as assigned.

required qualifications experience, education, knowledge & skillsbachelor's degree required. master's preferred.understanding of athletics administration and oversight of a diii athletic program including budget management.understanding of compliance related to ncaa and any other requirements. a meaningful background in athletics, such as experience as a coach, administrator, student-athlete, or other relevant and comparable experience.experience with fundraising and donor relations and cultivation.excellent administrative skills, budget management skills, computer, software, and organizational skills.excellent skills and understanding of athlete recruitment and coach accountability. excellent communication skills, both written and oral.demonstrated supervisory skills.
