reporting directly to chancellor lee h. roberts , the provost oversees 16 schools , including the university libraries, and 13 units . the next provost has an extraordinary opportunity to lead the academic vision that will elevate the university while fulfilling its commitment to serve the state of north carolina by creating new knowledge and application, improving communities, and positioning its scholars and students on the leading edge of discovery and innovation. the new provost will provide strategic vision and advance academic priorities that are in the long-term best interest of carolina, wisely crafting its direction, seeing the trending challenges, and determining its response. they will passionately champion carolina's mission and value, its faculty, staff and students, and be skilled in the diplomacy required to protect academic freedom.
at the minimum, the successful candidate will have an earned terminal degree and scholarly credentials to be tenured at the rank of full professor at carolina, substantial leadership and administrative experience, and demonstrated success in building interdisciplinarity, advancing research, fostering community and supporting student success.
