looking for a meaningful career where your compassion makes a difference? mental health kokua (mhk) is hiring a kauhale housing specialist on oahu to help adults in behavioral health recovery thrive in safe, supportive housing.

in this role, you'll provide guidance with daily living skills, ensure a respectful environment, and encourage each resident to reach their full potential. you'll also work closely with a team that shares your commitment to recovery and empowerment.

kauhale housing specialist responsibilities:

  • mentoring & support: serve as a positive role model, assist residents with life skills, reinforce residential rules, and check in daily to support housing and health goals.
  • activities of daily living (adls): teach skills such as cooking, personal care, and effective communication.
  • safety & crisis response: maintain a safe environment, respond to emergencies, and complete incident reports per policy.
  • program activities: plan and lead recreational, educational, and vocational outings aligned with residents' interests.
  • household operations: help with chores, shopping, and maintenance coordination; report and address facility issues promptly.
  • recovery-focused care: empower residents through behavioral health recovery models, fostering self-direction and growth.
  • service planning & documentation: support progress on service plan goals and maintain timely, accurate records.
  • resident supervision: monitor residents' well-being, medication self-administration, and daily routines.
  • clinical supervision: participate in regular supervision and training to ensure high-quality, culturally competent services.
  • other duties: complete additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

kauhale housing specialist requirements:

  • minimum: high school diploma or equivalent
  • preferred: coursework in psychology, social work, or human development; or experience in human services
  • candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities, remain calm under stress and adaptable in dynamic environments, and be able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • required certifications (upon hire or annually) include current cpr, first aid, and tb clearance.
  • additional requirements include the ability to lift up to 25 lbs and successfully pass a criminal background check.
