hr home employment opportunities employee resources student employment trinity institute the sister helen sheehan library at trinity washington university located in washington, d.c. is seeking a part time library associate to join our dedicated, service-oriented team. we're looking for an enthusiastic and flexible individual who can thrive in a dynamic academic environment and help us fulfill our mission of providing exceptional service to the university community. this position is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of tasks and has a passion for connecting people with information. the library associate plays a key role in multiple library functions, including public services, technical services, and student staff supervision. the successful candidate will report to the university librarian and will be a key contributor to our team's success, working with moderate supervision to support library operations.
duties and responsibilities:
the library associate supports our team of librarians and the university librarian. this role is a great opportunity to make a direct impact on the student experience. core duties include, but are not limited to:
the library associate supports librarians and the university librarian. duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- front-line patron services: providing courteous and efficient assistance to patrons with circulation services (checking materials in and out using our ils, alma), course reserves, and interlibrary loan requests.
- reference and research support: assisting patrons in locating and using both digital and print resources, helping to build their information literacy skills.
- supervision and mentorship: delegating tasks, training, and supervising student workers, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- technical services: assisting with the processing of new library materials, including books and periodicals, using systems like oclc and our ils.
- collection and program support: helping with the maintenance of library collections, creating engaging book displays, and assisting with library programming and events.
- administrative tasks: responding to inquiries via the library email, managing media room schedules, and troubleshooting basic technology issues (e.g., printing problems).
- resource coordination: coordinating the timely retrieval and delivery of books and journal articles for individuals and partner institutions.
- policy and procedure implementation: administering library policies and assisting with the implementation of new procedures and services to enhance efficiency and patron experience.
- weekend desk rotation: serving on the weekend reference desk rotation as part of a shared team schedule.
requirements and qualifications:
we are seeking a candidate with a strong service ethic and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing library landscape.
- bachelor's degree is required.
- experience with automated library systems (ils) and online databases is highly desirable.
- demonstrated ability to perform detailed computer work and to quickly learn new library-related software.
- strong oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to interact professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- exceptional customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- proficiency with microsoft office suite (word, excel, powerpoint) or similar software.
- a proven ability to supervise and mentor others.
- the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
- a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor that represents the library and university in a positive light
- having the ability to work 20-25 hours per week, and available to work monday-through-saturday 8:15am to 2:15pm based on the library's needs.
