the manager of sports broadcasting is a collaborative member of the av team that has a primary focus on recording and live streaming hillsdale college's athletic department events. the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in athletic broadcasting, building graphics, and leading a team of students in live production. hillsdale college's av team is highly collaborative in nature and values community and generosity above isolated silos. while this position's primary role is athletics-focused, we take turns with event coverage and seek a well-rounded candidate who would be comfortable managing general av needs for non-athletic events as well.

essential job functions
  1. set goals and develop consistency within our athletic broadcasts. plan for athletic event needs and train others in the best practices of professional-level live broadcasts.
  2. maintain knowledge of the broadcast control room environment, including audio and video patch-bays, fiber routing for camera feeds, broadcast pix switcher, new blue software, allen & heath d-live, clear-com, live stream encoders, ip network routing and configuration, etc.
  3. possess strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities to resolve technical issues as they arise.
  4. create game day graphics, score bugs, logos, etc., as needed for broadcasts.
  5. plan and perform video post-production tasks, including reviewing footage, logging, rough cuts, audio adjustments, and color correction.
  6. work alongside the student employee manager to train and support student teams in video standards, camera operation, and instant replay.
  7. ability and willingness to travel occasionally for event productions throughout the year, and willingness to work a non-traditional schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
  8. manage live av events as assigned. this involves communicating with the event requestor to confirm av details, preparing the venue with necessary gear, creating documentation, and scheduling setup and tear-down times.
  9. be a supporter of the vision, mission, and principles of the college and the av team.
  10. having a good sense of humor, serving, and leading by example, and having fun along the way, is foundational to long-term success with this team.


required qualifications: bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience 5+ years of audiovisual experience required desired qualifications: avixa cts certifications or relevant training

physical demands: ability to climb ladders and operate genie and scissor lifts, and able to carry or move up to 50lbs
