position overview:
we are seeking a detail-oriented mill test report (mtr) specialist to join our houston-based team. the ideal candidate will have experience in the steel industry and a strong understanding of mtrs, quality documentation, and erp systems. this role ensures accurate documentation for customer orders, adherence to industry standards, and coordination with suppliers and internal departments.
key responsibilities:
- review supplier mtrs for compliance before entering into the mtr system; communicate with vendors on discrepancies.
- accurately enter mtrs into software and scan/save supporting test reports.
- generate mtrs for customer orders in line with specific requirements and industry standards.
- create coating certificates for fastener and industrial coating orders.
- upload documentation to customer portals and respond to customer feedback as needed.
- collaborate with internal departments on documentation issues.
- ensure timely delivery of required documentation.
- participate in sigma procedure training and adhere to sigma quality management and safety policies.
- maintain a clean and organized work area.
- generate non-conformance reports and assist in creating corrective and preventive action reports.
- support additional projects as assigned.
qualifications:
- strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- effective communication skills and professional phone/email etiquette.
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and troubleshoot independently.
- experience with mtrs, erp systems, and the steel industry is required.
- must pass a drug screen and background check.
- flexible with work hours and scheduling as needed.
education and experience:
- high school diploma or ged required.
- proficient in ms office (outlook, excel, word) and basic computer skills.
- understanding of basic math and chemistry is preferred.
- prior experience handling mill test certificates and working in a quality documentation role is strongly preferred.
