position overview:
we are seeking a detail-oriented mill test report (mtr) specialist to join our houston-based team. the ideal candidate will have experience in the steel industry and a strong understanding of mtrs, quality documentation, and erp systems. this role ensures accurate documentation for customer orders, adherence to industry standards, and coordination with suppliers and internal departments.

key responsibilities:

  • review supplier mtrs for compliance before entering into the mtr system; communicate with vendors on discrepancies.
  • accurately enter mtrs into software and scan/save supporting test reports.
  • generate mtrs for customer orders in line with specific requirements and industry standards.
  • create coating certificates for fastener and industrial coating orders.
  • upload documentation to customer portals and respond to customer feedback as needed.
  • collaborate with internal departments on documentation issues.
  • ensure timely delivery of required documentation.
  • participate in sigma procedure training and adhere to sigma quality management and safety policies.
  • maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • generate non-conformance reports and assist in creating corrective and preventive action reports.
  • support additional projects as assigned.

qualifications:

  • strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • effective communication skills and professional phone/email etiquette.
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and troubleshoot independently.
  • experience with mtrs, erp systems, and the steel industry is required.
  • must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • flexible with work hours and scheduling as needed.

education and experience:

  • high school diploma or ged required.
  • proficient in ms office (outlook, excel, word) and basic computer skills.
  • understanding of basic math and chemistry is preferred.
  • prior experience handling mill test certificates and working in a quality documentation role is strongly preferred.
