responsibilitieswho is an ideal candidate for this position? the ideal candidate will be a skilled problem solver with a natural curiosity, love of lifelong learning, and enthusiasm for the work of others. they will work hard to understand the needs of the college and communicate those needs effectively to donors at the major gift level down to annual support. strong communication skills are required as well as an affinity for relationship building with external constituents and internal stakeholders.
what is a typical day in this position? senior associate directors of development utilize a moves management strategy to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 100-125 major gift donor relationships. the typical day may involve planning travel to visit prospects in a major market, meeting with local faculty member to discuss program needs and having coffee with a major donor prospect to solicit their support. the job is as customizable as the individual relationships in the portfolio, but all lead to better supporting the college.
what can i expect in the first 60-90 days? new senior associate directors of development can expect to spend much of their first 90 days in conversation with faculty and chairs, learning about the programs and the college, attending college events, and working with prospect research and management to build a portfolio of prospects for qualification, cultivation, and solicitation. within the first 90 days, the candidate might also anticipate taking a minimum of 3-4 prospecting trips to major markets to begin building relationships and soliciting support.
