the senior linux administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable linux-based systems within enterprise environments. this role plays a critical part in the optimization, automation, and cybersecurity compliance of mission-critical infrastructure. the administrator ensures operational stability, supports incident response, and leads system modernization and automation efforts.


job responsibilities:

  • manage red hat enterprise linux (rhel) systems, including configuration, patching, and tuning.
  • implement and maintain automation using ansible, bash, and python for configuration and deployment.
  • perform system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and compliance audits in alignment with dod stigs and nist 800-53.
  • test, configure and implement policy for sssd, firewalld, chrony, fapolicyd, selinux, grub, 3rd party software and others.
  • troubleshoot complex system issues, conduct root cause analysis, and support high-severity incident response.
  • maintain detailed system documentation, sops, and recovery procedures.
  • support backup, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations planning (coop).
  • collaborate with cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to ensure system integrity and availability


education :

  • bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field.


experience:

  • proficiency with rhel, satellite, ansible, git, and shell scripting.
  • familiarity with windows ecosystem (ad, kerberos, scom)
  • working knowledge of cloud platforms (aws, azure) and virtualization technologies
  • strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills

certifications:

  • dod 8570 iat level ii certification (e.g., security+ ce) required.
  • active secret clearance (ts/sci eligibility preferred).
  • rhcsa or rhce certification preferred
