  • proficient in the use of hand and power tools (shovels, compactors, saws, etc.)
  • ability to perform physical labor in various outdoor conditions
  • familiarity with trench safety, pipe laying, grading, and general civil site work
  • ability to read and understand construction plans and stakeout marks
  • basic understanding of job site safety practices and osha requirements
  • ability to work under direction and independently with minimal supervision
  • strong communication and teamwork skills
preferred skills
  • experience working on residential or commercial site development projects
  • knowledge of utility installation (storm, sewer, water)
  • familiarity with gps or laser leveling equipment
  • cdl or ability to operate light construction equipment (skid steer, mini-excavator)
qualifications
  • high school diploma or ged required
  • 2-4 years of experience in site development or heavy civil construction
  • prior experience working with grading, trenching, or underground utilities
  • osha 10-hour certification preferred
  • first aid/cpr certification a plus.
  • ability to provide effective verbal and written communication.
  • meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • must possess a valid drivers license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • ability to travel to various job sites as required.
  • days and hours of work vary based on job size and job location (40-55 hours weekly). evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand.
  • familiar with working in florida panhandle region.
  • must successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) drug screen.
physical requirements:
  • constant physical efforts including standing, is required during a regular work shift for at least eight hours per day. must be able to stand for extended periods of time, as well as able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and climb as required to perform key duties.
  • frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
  • able to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and, at times, as much as 90 pounds.
  • manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber, and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
  • ability to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground.
  • able to work in high, precarious places as well as in extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • work environment periodically exposes the employees to moderate to loud levels of noise, grease, and dust that are typically associated with a construction project.
