Principal Electronic Engineer

Principal Electronics Engineer This role is a principal level position looking for someone from a similar position or looking for their next step. Primarily the role will involve the design and development of embedded electronics for aerospace products. Schematic design and PCB layout of low voltage embedded circuits, taking a design from requirements capture through to manufacture and test hands on experience will be needed. SC Clearance is essential. The company are going through growth within their avionics and electronic team and therefore need someone to come in with strong hands on skills but happy to mentor junior employees and oversee small teams. Essential Skills;
  • Full electronic engineering life cycle experience
  • To develop requirements and specifications for electronic and embedded firmware systems.
  • Requirements capture and review.
  • Circuit design and schematic capture.
  • Multi-layer PCB layout design.
  • Good understanding and experience of using OrCAD or equivalent package for schematic capture and PCB layouts

About the Role

The Senior Electronics Engineer will play a critical role in the ongoing development and quality assurance of a range of innovative products. Working closely with the CTO and COO, the successful candidate will contribute to both current and next-generation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and verify schematic designs and PCB layouts
  • Support initial development and validation through hands-on prototyping and experimentation.
  • Assist in embedded firmware development (STM32) and version control (Git/GitHub).
  • Design for EMC compliance and adherence to ISO standards.
  • Participate in risk assessment, hazard identification, and quality control processes.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and constructive technical discussions.
  • Support short-term projects involving PLC control and automation systems.

Requirements

  • Strong background in digital electronics and embedded systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and prototype assembly.
  • Competent in embedded software development and testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of EMC design practices and ISO compliance.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (domestic and international).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and safely.

Desirable

  • Experience with STM32 microcontrollers and signal processing.
  • Exposure to AMD Zynq platforms and FPGA development.
