Systems engineer Portsmouth 40-60k

My Client is in the maritime transportation industry and is looking for a Systems engineer to join their growing team!

Main Duties:

  • Technical Documentation: Create interface documents, requirements specifications, Statements of Work (SoW), and validation reports.
  • System Configuration & Testing: Build, configure, test, and commission systems as required.
  • Product Knowledge & Support: Maintain expertise in systems to guide service engineers in commissioning, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Requirements Interpretation: Analyze specifications, ensuring compliance with CONOPS and system architecture.
  • Proposal Development: Prepare technical proposals aligned with project requirements.
  • Project Collaboration: Work closely with the Project Manager and report to the System Engineering Manager.
  • Decision-Making: Make technical decisions within contract scope, following company policies and procedures.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • HNC or equivalent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Marine electronics system engineering experience
  • Experience with navigation systems/ radar systems/ steering controls

The salary for this position is £40,000- £60,000 depending on experience.

About the role:

  • Undertaking of day to day reactive and planned engineering maintenance activities and improvement works at the CFC.

  • Diagnose equipment breakdowns and action repairs where possible.
  • Analyse data and find solutions to improve MHE performance.
  • Reporting and monitoring of data for automation and maintenance activities.

Shift: 12 hour shift with an average of 42 hours per week. This will involve working weekdays and weekends both days and nights. There are 264 hrs holiday equating to 22 days

About you:

  • Electrical or mechanical experience, preferably within an FMCG environment
  • A natural problem solver, experienced in working with controls, analysing faults and providing solutions
  • Good technical ability relating to automation hardware and software, ideally with some experience of both reactive and preventative maintenance
  • An organised, capable team player with excellent communication skills

Full training to complete the technician role over 5 weeks will be given but experience of working within an automated warehouse / logistics environment would be desirable. Flexibility of working pattern as and when required by business needs.

This manufacturer of automated laser gauging and measurement systems wishes to appoint a support engineer to provide technical support, ppm and break-fix and commissioning to their manufacturing client base.

Full product training is offered. N.B.The role involves approximately 60% short duration travel (5/6 days) to mostly Western Europe customers. Significant time off in lieu of travel is offered to allow you to recharge your batteries (in addition to a generous travel allowance and company credit card). Travel is scheduled 6-8 weeks in advance (no emergency call out). When in the Uk hybrid working is allowed however access to their Worcestershire site is required.

The ideal candidate will be qualified in an electrical or electro-mechanical discipline and have experience of machinery operating in a high volume manufacturing environment (some understanding of controls (ideally).

Role Summary: As a Test and Calibration Engineer your primary responsibilities will involve and calibrating AC and DC Power Sources and Loads, Battery Test Equipment, and other related electronic equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Key Duties:

  • Repairing Electronic Power Equipment to component level
  • Calibrating Electronic Power Equipment
  • Assisting in the administration of the service and calibration department
  • Conducting customer visits to carry out calibrations approximately 1 week per month vehicle provided.
  • Providing technical support and assisting customers with any technical issues

Qualifications and Experience: To be successful in this role, you should possess a HND or higher qualification in Electronics and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a related role. You should have a proven track record of fault finding electronic circuits to component level.

Skills and Qualities Required:

  • Excellent communication analytical, and IT skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a logical to problem solving
  • Ability to work well within a team and demonstrate organizational skills
  • Customer care skills and the ability to show initiative
  • A clean driving licence is essential for this role

Working Hours: The working hours for this position are from 8:00-17: Monday to Thursday and 8:00-14:00 on Friday, with a half-hour break.
