Continuous Improvement Manufacturing Engineer

A Continuous Improvement Engineer with manufacturing experience is required for a long term contract assignment in Bolton.

The role;

Set up, support and govern CI reviews, ensuring they are robust and sustainable.

Facilitation and running of CI plans to enable the implementation of corrective & preventative actions

Supporting root cause analysis for externally supplied detail products

Reduce defective issues within the stores area of the business which include, rework and non-conformances using an 8D / A3 methodology.

Implementation of process controls & process capability based on critical stores and logistics process driven by both our internal and external customers

Facilitation of Practical Problem Solving for Root cause analysis within the manufacturing & Logistic facilities

Facilitation of Improvement activities within the Manufacturing & Logistics facility

Technical expertise on Lean tool sets and change management

Managing improvements into the business

What we're looking for from you:

  • Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3/TR23/TR21.

AND

  • Formal further education certificate to HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject.

OR

  • BEng in relevant Engineering or Science Degree

As a CI Team member your skills and experience will ideally include:

Strong Manufacturing & Warehousing background (preferable not essential)

Awareness of supply chain goods receiving practices (preferable not essential)

Understanding of MRP & Just in Time principals (preferably in a stores environment)

Working in or supporting operations in a fast paced production environment.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence teams outside of your direct reporting structure.

The ability to form and maintain productive, working relationships across the functions.

Experience in the use & understanding of Lean manufacturing & SIX Sigma methodologies

Experience in the use & understanding of CI & Quality tools

Leading practical problem solving exercises with multi-functional teams

The ability to produce, maintain and interpret data using structured approach.

Manage projects and or improvement from "cradle to grave"

Experience in the use & understanding of Lean manufacturing systems tools and techniques & Minitab software.

Having a sound understanding of manufacturing, Logistical and engineering processes

  • To lead the activity of pre-production readiness of all new equipment, ensuring that the following requirements are met:-Product quality demonstration through liaison with the Quality department (via IAT and FAT),Relevant training of Operators and Support Functions on any production line tooling, jigs and fixtures, in-line with SHE requirements, Parts, tooling and consumable requirements are identified for tie-in with Logistics delivery planning, Support the SHE buy-off of any new technologies and equipment.
  • Providelineside manufacturing support to:
    • The Production Delivery Teams to develop and introduce methods of improving the productivity of existing manufacturing systems or techniques, taking into consideration the use of technology where appropriate
    • Create, approve, maintain risk assessments and work closely with SHE department to promote best practices within the business
    • Formal requests for problem solving within existing processes, factory layouts, equipment and machinery to improve existing processes where necessary using Kaizan, TAKT analysis, VSM and PFMEA.
  • Promote safe working practices and raise OSHENs incident reports to document any issues. Design safe working in to all manufacturing instructions/ad hoc task processes.
  • Have a good understanding of MBoM creation from the EBoM and how to structure the MBoM in accordance with the process flow.
  • Have an excellent understanding of PFMEA documents and how to write them.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE

  • Engineering Degree with experience in Manufacturing Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience in defining and managing Key Performance Indicators.
  • Understanding of MTRL and manufacturing systems.

  • Professional knowledge of relevant Engineering standards (including SHE regulations).

We design, manufacture, repair and overhaul a range of carbon fibre composite propeller systems for military and civil applications from our new state of the art headquarters facility in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, UK.

In this role you will be part of the NPI team to provide support to the growing demand for new propeller manufacturing systems and contribute to develop the next generation of electrified, sustainable aviation. You will be a highly valued member of the Manufacturing Engineering department who are empowered across the company to ensure design intent is correctly translated using our production system.

You will ensure design for manufacturing remains a key focus during the development cycle of our products. Through development and pilot production you will provide feedback to the design team, aid the design team in resolving issues, supply documentation, tooling, and training to allow the product to be built in a clean manufacturing environment.

You will be in charge of developing all CNC related aspects required on new products as well as support development trials. You will also be driving the start of our journey toward a fully automated assembly process as we look to provide the industrial base for high volume manufacture of composite propeller blades and systems.

With a focus on manufacturability, you will help contribute to the development of new processes, facilities and capabilities and assist with the adoption of automation and new technologies to ensure repeatability and reliability in the manufacturing process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Keeping yourself, the ME team, and the business safe and compliant in all your daily tasks.
  • Representing the NPI team as the subject matter expert on CNC mill and lathe machining,. Able to create, validate and continuously improve CNC programmes for prototype development products.
  • Act as a metrology (CMM/Laser Scanning) focal for the NPI team. Author CMM programmes and investigate latest technologies for best-in-class inspection.
  • Working simultaneously with engineering optimise the manufacturability of new products in development using DFM/DFA guidelines.
  • Identifying key characteristics and controls to define process specifications to define inspection strategies.
  • Execute structured problem solving and robust root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
  • Develop robust, lean solutions for equipment layouts, process design and product flow to maximise ROI and reduce hours/costs per unit.

JOB- Manufacturing Engineer LOCATION- Wrexham TERM- Permanent SALARY- £45,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience) We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer on a permanent basis in the Wrexham area. The ideal candidate will identify & implement best manufacturing practices for Lean manufacturing to streamline processes and improve productivity, quality and throughput whilst reducing costs. A large portion of this role is dedicated to project managing NPI (New Product Introduction) and large Capex projects. The Manufacturing Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Minimum HNC/HND engineering qualification or completion of apprenticeship
  • Ability to understand engineering instructions, processes, and drawings
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP a benefit)
  • Good communication skills demonstrated both verbally and written
  • Proactive in approach to customers & suppliers & areas to improve efficiency
  • Ability to lead technical meetings & discussions with customers
  • Thrives under pressure & the will to succeed
  • Electro-mechanical background would be beneficial but not essential
  • Takes responsibility for ownership of issues and problems providing effective practical solutions

The Manufacturing Engineer role will involve:

  • Project management of NPI & capital projects: responsible from project kick-off to production implementation & hand-over to operations
  • Creating/ updating work instructions, process sheets, testing/validation plans
  • Economically improve the manufacturing efficiency and efficacy through development of production processes, business systems, and recommendations for product changes
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements.
  • Provide training on new and modified processes
  • Keep abreast of relevant industry advances and champion their introduction
  • Create and maintain controlled documentation such as Process flows, tool drawings, component specs, BOMs and work instructions
  • Processing ECR's and producing corrective actions
  • Propose justify & execute Capex project in line with budgeted expectations
  • Support business improvement with lean techniques e.g. PFMEA, FMEA
  • Responsibilities including vendor/supplier management, budget management, timeline & scheduling management, project documentation management
  • Deliver continuous improvement, operational excellence, and Lean improvements
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and other departments with ongoing engineering issues

As Manufacturing Engineer, you will ensure all manufacturing requirements are communicated in detail through the relevant departments and provide support throughout the organisation.

Working from their manufacturing facility in Warwickshire, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Fault finding/repair of process plant and equipment

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level in engineering or HNC/HND.

You should be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge and experience in current production and new product introduction.

You should have at least 2-3 years experience within the Manufacturing industry, excellent communication skills as this role will be the direct interface between manufacturing and the client.

This is a permanent role within the Air Technology business unit, aimed at providing manufacturing engineering expertise to support both existing and new products, and to drive forward strategic Lean initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with manufacturing cell leaders, the lean co-ordinator, and design engineering to enhance process efficiencies
  • Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Routings, and Visual Factory displays
  • Create and maintain routings within the MRP system

The opportunity: An opportunity is now available in the CI team. The successful candidate will support the MBDA Assembly Operations business by developing, optimising and improving internal Stores and Logistic processes to aid the delivery of missile systems to our UK & international customers.
