Job description Reporting to the Service office manager in the after-sales division

Main job purpose: Provide timely and accurate technical assistance, both mechanical and electrical to field and workshop-based employees, using both remote and hands on methods where required. Support customers with basic diagnostics and provision of information where required. Assist internal departments with the creation of estimates and quotations relating to product repairs or maintenance.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Technical Support Be the first point of contact for technical support enquiries via phone or in person. Provide professional and accurate support to engineers and customers. Ensure all support calls are logged and concluded in a timely manner. Maintain accurate files and notes relating to product and support calls received. Identify common failure modes and work with relevant departments to improve the product. Support the Service Office team on technical matters where required. Review test and job sheet reports to offer support on the technical content.

Administration Creation of detailed estimates and quotations. Provide support regarding parts required for repairs and timescales for job completion. Provide feedback to the line manager regarding engineer development requirements. Directly provide hands on technical training where required to support theoretical learning. Ensure required software is installed on engineer laptops and working fully where required. Always utilise internal systems effectively and accurately. Support Warranty meetings where required based on evidence of in life failures. Provide detailed findings and trends on identified failures. Support the Service Office team during busy periods.

Personal focus Positively support and promote the company internally and externally. Ensure business values, behaviours, and processes are always adhered to. Maintain own skills, competence and knowledge on products and evolving technologies. Attend company and external training courses, seminars and shows where required. Manage own diary and training needs where required effectively. Ensure you comply with all required Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality processes

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required: Previous experience of technical support or engineering role. Extensive working knowledge of product. Solid understanding of real-life vehicle operation. Technical qualification in an electrical or mechanical field. Proactive and possession of strong interpersonal and research skills. Flexible attitude, with willingness to travel where required. Competent to produce professional looking documentation where required. Ability to work on your own initiative and be self-motivated. Computer Literate including all MS Office Applications. Excellent attention to detail. Willingness to challenge and adopt change in current processes. Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.

Technical Support Engineer

A software company based near Durham are recruiting for a Technical Support Engineer to join their team. The role will be responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support, resolution of tickets and service requests within the defined Service Level Agreements, as well as direct involvement in the deployment, configuration and integration of the software.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct Application Support and consulting on the implementation and usage of company software.
  • Managing own workloads, ensuring support tickets are in adherence to SLAs.
  • Working with the support team to handle service requests: including logging, processing and the assignment of tickets through the Ticketing Portal.
  • Responsible for evaluating tickets and escalating into L3 support when necessary; including being able to continue to work or provide insight on that ticket when in L3 or L4 escalation.
  • Developing customer relationships and building rapport to enhance the support service.
  • Providing expert knowledge of the company's extensive product range to be able to make recommendations and share advice on the implementation and usage of software.
  • Managing installations and upgrades as well as configuration of software to integrate with telephony systems and third-party software.
  • Analysing system errors and performance data from sources including application logs, system logs, bandwidth utilisation reports and other diagnostic tools to identify technical issues, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Documenting and writing up knowledgebase articles on common incidents, knowledge acquired through training and specialist information on the configuration of software.
  • Follow approved procedures for change control and documentation standards.
  • Assisting the Technical Support Team Leader on administrative duties and keeping the CRM up to date.
  • Assisting the Technical Support Team Leader and taking a lead on the management of application licences across the customer base.
  • Ensuring all customer licences are correctly audited and continuity of service is maintained by creating, applying and auditing all application licences.
  • Providing internal technical support to the business.
  • Aid with the setup and ongoing maintenance and operation of the chosen Ticketing application.

Qualifications

  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills are essential.
  • Hands on intermediate level technical knowledge of both hosted and remotely administered environments and infrastructure on Windows platforms.
  • Administration, tuning and querying of Microsoft SQL Server (Apply online only), SSRS and SSIS.
  • Troubleshooting of Windows Server Infrastructure and application issues under tied SLAs.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows Active Directory Infrastructure integration, group permissions and security policies.
  • To be able to write SSRS reports and SSIS packages.
  • An understanding of LAN/WAN/TCP/IP/Ports and Protocols.

Our Client has a requirement for an Internal Sales Engineer with experience in Electrical control and automation to provide sales and technical support to the external customer base, whilst developing and maintaining customer relationships and promoting products and services to maximise sales opportunities. You are most likely to be living in North of the Tyne area, including, North Shields, Whitley Bay, Wallsend, Longbenton, Jesmond, Cramlington, Blyth in order to commute. As the Internal Sales Engineer you will respond to and handle all product technical enquiries. You will be required, with training, to understand and be familiar with the full product range with the ability to offer alternatives if required and advise on the selection of products where possible. You will liaise with Field Sales Engineers and other staff to achieve the branch objectives and sales performance and as is normal in a small team environment engage in other duties. It is also expected that you have commercial ability and awareness to generate quotation for customers and are competent to judge the competitive situation needed to win the order whilst being mindful of profitability.

In order to perform this role successfully you will need technical electrical knowledge, there is flexibility on the qualification if you can illustrate your knowledge, product applications knowledge and commercial awareness. The ideal candidate may already be in a similar role as an internal sales engineer, technical support engineer, an electrical engineer looking to move into a commercial environment with the ability to illustrate good customer and administrative skills, or a graduate engineer with customer experience in a sales environment looking to develop their career in technical sales.

Knowledge and Experience

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • None mandatory but relevant knowledge and experience must be demonstrated or possibly ONC/HNC in Electrical engineering (or other electrical engineering qualification)

What will you be required to do?

As a Technical Support Engineer -Electrical, Mechanical & C&I, this role is plant based/hands on with the expectation to support and review, planning, resourcing and creation of SSOW/ RAMS. Then the implementation of these tasks to enable proactive and reactive maintenance to be successfully completed in line with the fundamentals of the maintenance role

As part of this role as mentioned the following documents but not limited to, you will be required to create for SSoW/RAMS packs. Which Includes risk assessments, method statements/maintenance instructions, working at height assessments, lift plans and COSHH assessments.

Types of plant, equipment and systems typically covered by the role will vary but will predominately be building services such as, electrical distribution, compressed air, steam, chilled water, HVAC, AHU's etc.

Technical Support Engineer will use experience and knowledge to provide technical support to the maintenance teams to enable completion of complex tasks whilst demonstrating understanding, competence and adherence to all relevant legislative and company standards within area of responsibility.

You will provide an interface between the maintenance and engineering functions for the delivery of minor alteration projects, the sourcing of spares, identification of suitable replacement parts for obsolete equipment.

What will you need to be considered?

  • An engineering apprenticeship with a minimum NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in a relevant technical discipline or NVQ/Diploma level 2 plus industrial experience.

  • Competency in a single specialism or capability to work across a range of disciplines or work areas.

  • Ability to work as a lead team member including coaching other engineers in specialised roles.

  • Basic computer literacy to utilise relevant business systems (e.g., Asset Management System)

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.

The Role

Part of the Technology team, this role involves the provision of systems support on a range of systems. This role supports the full range of Technology Support Desk duties, and you will be one of the first points of contact for all staff.

Your main duties will be responding to calls, recording and resolving issues and, where appropriate, allocating tasks to other team members; and maintaining the Society s hardware and software. You will also provide technical guidance to other Technology Support Desk staff members.

About You

We are looking for someone with experience of:

  • Working within an IT helpdesk environment PowerShell, Microsoft Online (365) and Exchange Online Management modules
  • Migrating a business from on-premise to Microsoft Office 365 services
  • Supporting and administering Microsoft Office 365 services, for example, Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online and Defender
  • Full device lifecycle management using Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune
  • Packaging software and apps in Microsoft Intune
  • Deploying devices using Windows Autopilot
  • Deploy remediation scripts from cloud-based tools
  • Replacing and troubleshooting computer hardware components
  • Supporting and maintaining range of peripheral devices
  • Acting as a senior within an IT support team, sharing knowledge and acting as an escalation point
  • Working within a project team
