  • Extensive experience of specialist mortgage underwriting, the mortgage intermediary market, its products, marketing approach and processes.
  • Held a specialist BTL lending mandate for a minimum of 2 years ( 500k+ mandate desirable).
  • Strong team player who is committed, conscientious and hardworking.
  • A detailed understanding of complex BTL lending types, such as: Portfolio Buy to Let, SPV's, New Build, Contractors, Ex-Pats, Self-Employed, Credit Repair, HMOs and MUBs. Strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive, hardworking and flexible attitude to work and be team player
  • Confident and clear communicator.

The Development Underwriter is responsible for processing refurbishment and development finance applications where initial terms have been issued. The Underwriter must work together with the other members of the Underwriting team to ensure that loans are processed in accordance with the company's underwriting manual and lending policy. The Underwriter must use their skill and experience to approve those loans which are deemed acceptable and reject any which are unacceptable and represent a risk to the company.

We are currently working with an ambitious MGA who are part of one of the UK's insurance powerhouses, who now have an exciting opportunity for someone to join them as a Senior Fleet Underwriter. This is a key hire for them, and they are looking to speak with those with 8-15 years plus Fleet underwriting experience, to come on board to co-manage the Fleet team there. This is a small team of 6, plus one other senior underwriter and represents a superb career opportunity for you, as they aim to grow the Fleet book from £14million to £28million in the next 5 years.

They like to write large Fleet and large taxi fleet business here, and do try to avoid heavy haulage and high risk business.

They have a very low turnover of staff here too, which we feel speaks volumes about the type of organisation they are to work for, with only 5 people leaving the business in the last 10 years and they currently have a strong and close-knit team of 32 in this office overall. This role has become available due to the retirement of the current Senior Underwriter.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving underwriting performance, analysing key trends, and supporting the development of fleet underwriting strategies. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, brokers, and the wider underwriting team to ensure risk assessment and pricing decisions align with business objectives. You will also be responsible for driving broker relationships and trading, and managing the team here in conjunction with your fellow Senior Underwriter.

This role will need to be based from the Romford office at least 2 or 3 days a week with the rest being able to be based from home. They will however consider someone doing 1 or 2 days in Romford and another from their box in Lloyds too.

Salary on offer is £70k-100k with a 10-15% annual bonus based on individual performance. Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30-5pm/9am-5:30pm with 1 hour for lunch. They also offer a good company pension and Bupa cover. There is no parking at the office, but after probation they have a deal with the local council to get staff a parking discount locally.
