Position Overview

C&S Engineers is seeking a Managing Engineer with a focus on airfield and landside design and construction. This is a full-time position offering competitive compensation, great employee benefits and an outstanding work environment. Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.

Position Responsibilities

You will provide team leadership for the design and construction of horizontal and vertical airfield projects in Southern California. You will lead project management efforts on large/complex engineering projects including budgets, resource alignment, client relations, quality, scheduling, and business development.

Responsibilities include supervising engineers and designers, managing clients, engaging in industry events and conferences, administration of consultant/sub-consultant agreements, resolving critical issues/policy matters and delivering challenging projects for our clients. The Managing Engineer oversees and/or coordinates project staff assignments and workload to meet client deadlines. Opportunities exist to lead/support other projects in offices across the country. The Managing Engineer will utilize safe work practices in accordance with federal, state, local, and company standards and Communicate incidents, accidents, near misses, potential hazards, and unsafe working conditions to a supervisor or the Health and Safety Department as soon as identified.

Skills/Education/Experience

  • 10 years required and 15 years preferred total of related experience with a preference for at least 5 years of experience working on large/regional airfield design/construction and knowledge of airfield and FAA regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of FAA procedures, policies and grant administration.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License (California licensure preferred or able to get CA license within a year required).
  • Existing relationships with large airport and aviation market clients a plus.
  • Private/consulting experience a plus.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Skills to effectively lead and work in large and small multidisciplinary team environments.
  • Ability to set deadlines, assign resources, and monitor/summarize project progress.

Estimated Compensation Range: $140,000 - 190,000/year

Division Overview:

Ampirical's Substation Engineering Division has recognized national expertise in the planning and design of new substations and high voltage electrical substations and switchyards. Job Summary:

The Substation Civil Engineer will work within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable preliminary drawings and design of site/foundation/structural components for High Voltage Substation Facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards and Request for Quote (RFQ) scope of work ensuring constructability of design. This position requires the individual to provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to less experienced engineers within the department.

Who You Are:

  • Professional Engineering License is required

  • Develop site designs including storm water management, grading, surface/sub-surface drainage plans, detailed plans and specifications, and bidding and construction management of civil projects.

  • Determine cut and fill requirements based on site topography and soil boring logs.

  • Deliver accurate designs of complex structures that meet industry and client standards and applicable codes.

  • Perform quality reviews of civil/structural engineering work for both peers/sub-contractors on assigned projects.

  • Perform hand calculations applying proficiency in civil/structural codes and standards such as AISC, ACI, ASCE 113, CBC, IEEE, NESC, etc.

  • Prepare preliminary construction drawing packages for submittal to construction contractors for bid; review incoming proposals for alignment with design and constructability of methods.

  • Assist with the development of project proposals, bid preparation, project schedules, etc. for assigned Substation projects.

  • Assist project team during construction on civil, site, and foundation issues.

  • Travel to client sites/field as necessary.

This Opportunity

WSP is searching for a Senior Civil Engineer for our Charlotte, North Carolina office to be part of our Civil Design service line that supports WSP's power, industrial, and municipal clientele across the southeast. The following locations will also be considered: Asheville, NC , and Greensboro, NC . The position relies heavily on an ability to interact with clients, team leadership skills, and technical knowledge. The successful candidate will have the ability to work on a breadth of civil projects ranging from erosion and sediment control plans, spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans, hydraulics and hydrology design, civil grading, and landfill design and closure projects. This position will provide oversight and leadership to small to medium project design teams. This position will juggle multiple projects and adjust to a variety of priorities. As a civil engineer, the candidate will be responsible for execution of calculations, design options, reports, agency reviews, and construction drawings for civil design projects. The candidate will have a strong desire to interact with clients and foster long lasting relationships.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

  • Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain within one year

Description

The Senior Civil Engineer will lead civil design project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.   • Lead civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

Qualifications

  • Conventional engineering skills
  • Knowledge of conventional civil/site design elements and good knowledge of the principles and practices of related specialties, including geometric layout, road design, drainage design, water distribution design, sewer design, pump station design, utility coordination and grading design
  • Ability to interpret and apply State (DEP, DHS, DOT, etc.) and municipal regulations and design standards to projects
  • Knowledge of office design procedures and graphic standards
  • Basic skills in AutoCAD and Land Development
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel software
Education and Experience Requires a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or other related field. Registration as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer desired.
