Electrical Engineer II

Description

V2X is growing! V2X is looking for an Electrical Engineer II to join our team!

The position requires the candidate to troubleshoot circuit card manufacturing defects, support Root Cause Corrective Action reports, synthesize solutions, and communicate to the wider product team. Initially the position requires the candidate assist in a production support capacity for a low-rate initial production design. Additionally, the candidate will be tasked to design and develop circuit card assemblies (CCA) and modules such as test adapters and fielded systems. The Electrical Engineer should be experienced in aspects of circuit card design from concept through delivery to higher level assemblies as evidenced by successful design completions (including hardware/firmware designs with microcontrollers or microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, and industry interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, UART). The candidate and team will be required to integrate aircraft AC and DC power, low voltage control signals, Ethernet, digital discrete input/output, and analog signals for the functional system.

The candidate shall utilize simulation tools such as LTSpice or PSpice to model electronics behavior. The candidate shall design analog circuits to meet a set of requirements. The candidate shall perform component selection and schematic capture in Altium Designer and Siemens Xpedition. The candidate shall guide Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout of circuitry and technical drawing creation. The candidate shall utilize analysis tools such as Mathcad and/or Matlab to assess electrical design robustness of circuitry. The candidate shall perform design reviews, equipment integration, equipment characterization, and testing which will require a high degree of onsite presence at a minimum of three days locally, immediately.

The candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite; routine communication will occur through MS Teams, OneNote, Azure DevOps, Excel, and e-mail.

Additional responsibilities include:

Key job responsibilities

A day in the life

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be a member of the avionics and power hardware team, focusing on the design and test for the various sensing and control needs (power delivery, propulsion, attitude control, etc.) of the satellite. You will be expected to lead a variety of tasks, from component selection and board design, to layout review, board bring-up, validation, and integration. As an experienced member of the team, you will be responsible for identifying top level requirements and ensuring high quality and innovative designs are pursued. You will work across teams and support other Project Kuiper engineering projects through collaboration, design review and the development of electrical engineering standards.

You will work with a team of top-notch engineers and collaborate with multiple spacecraft design and integration teams. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical, troubleshooting and maintenance support to all ASU, CO2, H2 and He plants within the fleet for all electrical issues, including 138kV substations, High/Medium/Low voltage switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Variable Frequency Drives, Battery & UPS system, DCS & PLC Controls, large motors up to 35,000HP.   • Provide electrical technical support, review and approval of changes using the Engineering Management of Change (EMOC) process. Assist local personnel in developing proper engineering documentation for performing any changes.
  • Create or review and approving the application of electrical equipment PM's, work instructions, and related procedures. Review the quality and completeness of electrical PM execution at plant location.
  • Support operations in the field for major maintenance, upgrades, new plant checkout and commissioning. Perform full loop checks and functional testing of equipment in test position, prior to plant startup. Provide support during plant restart.
  • Provide electrical equipment scope, proposal estimates, technical documents and execution support to the Project Execution team for large capital improvements projects and re-life projects.
  • Supervise and assess the technical competency of electrical contractors and service providers to ensure proper scope is assigned and the expected quality is received.
  • Responsible for understanding, applying and training NFPA 70E to plant personnel as well as reviewing contractor electrical safety practices.
  • Perform general electrical training at site locations.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience in Operations Support, Reliability or Engineering and Installation of Industrial Process Plants, power distribution required.

Qualified candidates must have solid technical experience with the preparation of electrical construction drawings, specifications, submittals and construction administration. Job Activities:

  • Actively engage in and assume responsibility for code research and application

  • Create preliminary schematics and final designs with oversight from more experienced staff

  • Perform calculations, equipment selection and layout

  • Preparation of accurate lighting, power, and systems construction drawings and specifications

  • Submittal review and construction administration

  • Assist in maintaining project design budgets and schedules

Our Electro-Optics and Laser Solutions Team is seeking a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer to lead an agile team in the design and development of advanced electronics for LASER and LIDAR systems. This role involves creating rugged, high-performance equipment for deployment across airborne, terrestrial, and underwater platforms. As a technical leader, you'll play a key role in designing new sensors, circuits, and systems-starting from fundamental physical principles and system requirements, through prototyping, debugging, testing, and integration into larger operational systems.   • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment as an electrical engineer and with capital project life cycle.
  • Experience installing mill grade equipment is required.

In this role, your design delivery responsibilities will include power system modeling, conceptual design development, layout and selection of equipment, development of contract drawings using 2D and 3D design approaches, bid package preparation, field investigations, electrical and I&C design, and support during construction both in the office and the field. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for building things, meeting new people, and desire to work with professionals who perform industrial and municipal electrical, and other water/wastewater work.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform electrical design in coordination with other team members on plant and pump station power systems
  • Produce effective and accurate written documents, reports, and technical memorandums
  • Serve as a project task manager, or perform as lead discipline (electrical) engineer on projects as appropriate
  • Scope and budget projects, identify method of project execution. Prioritize requests to ensure deadlines are met
  • Successfully manage and execute electrical designs to be on time and on budget using company systems and tools
  • Collaborate with other technical national teams for design standards and coordination
  • Mentor other electrical and I&C engineers and designers

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineering registration required
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer working for government, municipal, and/or industrial water and wastewater industries preferred
  • Experience in electrical power systems design and specification, which include service entrance, feeder and branch circuits, lighting, grounding, power distribution and standby power equipment, and associated systems studies and calculations.
  • Experience in power system analysis and modeling software such as SKM and ETAP a plus.
  • Experience in industrial power systems design, service entrance, feeder and branch circuits, lighting, emergency power and power distribution equipment is required
  • Medium to High Voltage experience is required
  • Solid knowledge in the application of the National Electrical Code
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of electrical safety systems, NFPA 70E
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Able to multi-task, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and work independently with a willingness to learn
  • Candidate should be a self-starter, results-oriented and be able to work under tight and pressured deadlines
