The role of this position includes such tasks as:

  • Serve as technical lead on full-service design and construction services for geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering aspects of remediation and mining projects including landfills, slurry walls, sheet pile walls, sediment dredging, sediment capping, solidification and stabilization of contaminated soils and sludge, lagoon closures, industrial waste impoundments and mine site remediation.

  • Plan, schedule and conduct or coordinate field data collection investigations and laboratory studies and testing for a wide range of project types and in various geologic settings and site conditions.

  • Scope, direct, and review geotechnical engineering analyses and reporting for moderate to complex geotechnical and geo-environmental projects

  • Lead the civil design of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects including drawings and specifications, bid packages, cost estimates and other contract documents for subcontractors.

  • Lead engineering oversight services during investigations and during remedial construction.

  • Prepare scope, schedules, and budgets for proposals.

  • Work as an integrated member of a multi-disciplined team on complex remediation and civil works projects.

  • Demonstrate excellent writing and communications skills and ability to work with clients in the public and private sectors.

  • Provide oversight, direction, and mentoring to junior engineers, geologists, and technicians.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering emphasis

  • High level technical proficiency with remedial design of environmentally impacted sites, CERCLA Superfund sites, landfills, solid/liquid waste impoundments, containment berms and mining closure sites.

  • Demonstrated experience working with other environmental professionals such as Geologists, Hydrogeologists, Environmental Scientists, Environmental Chemists and Geochemists.

  • Familiarity with Environmental regulations and requirements at the federal and state levels (CERCLA, RCRA, and TSCA).

  • Experience with specialized geotechnical engineering software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, LPILE, Leapfrog, gINT, and Open Ground

  • Knowledge of geosynthetic applications and experience with design and installation of geosynthetics in geo-environmental and solid/liquid waste impoundment projects is a plus

  • OSHA HAZWOPER (40-Hour) training, current OSHA 8-Hour refresher certificate, or other certifications for working on CERCLA, RCRA and TSCA sites.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.

The Assistant Environmental Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including high-voltage transmission line routing, power generation construction activities, and water treatment facilities. Environmental Engineer - Mid Level - Remediation Focus (Hybrid)

Summary:

Barr is seeking an environmental engineer to join one of it's Michigan offices and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with preparing technical work plans, cost estimates, and contracting for investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and soil gas; interpreting data; performing technology evaluations; developing remediation and reclamation strategies and designs; coordinating bench- to field-scale technology demonstration tests; completing feasibility studies; preparing plans and specifications; and writing technical reports.

KBR is seeking a highly motivated and career-oriented Environmental Engineer to join our team supporting a government client with locations in Washington Metropolitan Area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Validate an Environmental Management Plan (EMP), that details all requirements to be fulfilled across the project packages and submit. The EMP shall describe the required procedures, document / record management, and communication protocols, systems, structures, and include tools, templates and checklists to be implemented by Contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, service providers and other project stakeholders as applicable, for the successful execution of environmental requirements.

  • Conduct annual internal audits on the implementation of the EMP and submit to the Environmental Manager. Ensure the implementation of the corrective and preventative actions, as well as improvement measures are managed by the Construction Supervision Consultant.

  • Validate the Contractor's pre-construction survey in accordance with requirements, reviewed and approved by the Construction Supervision Consultant.

  • Establish processes to monitor, measure, control and report on Environmental issues against the Project's Environmental Impact Assessment - EIA, and Construction Environmental Management Plans - CEMP.

  • Review and validate Construction Environmental plans of all Contractors.

  • Lead and manage regular coordination meetings with all Construction Supervision Consultant and Contractors.

  • Prepare monthly environmental and sustainability reports.

  • Review, validate and issue incident reports on environmental compliance of construction and develop and manage the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Assist and coordinate submission documentation and required applications, NOCs and approvals from the NCEC.

  • Advise on environmental policies and regulatory requirements, while ensuring applicability to projects and implementation on site.

  • Direct liaison with all levels of construction and site management, as well as regulatory authorities; also, complementary disciplines such as logistics, and health and safety.

  • Provision of supervision, direct instruction, mentoring, training, assessment, review, technical input, monitoring, rectification, remediation, infringements, auditing, coordination, validation, incident reporting on environmental compliance of all construction activities involved within the assigned projects.

Qualifications

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB This position will mainly focus on three items (1) PSM/RMP program (2) Factory wide environmental activities and (3) Engineering drafting, contractor and project management. JOB DESCRIPTION ROLE AND ACTIVITY:

  • Review Findings as part of the steering committee meetings agenda
  • Ensure process safety information is accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure process hazard analysis are conducted every five years, track performance of eliminating identified hazards, and keep management updated.
  • Ensure the required PSM audit is completed by a qualified contractor every 3 years.
  • Ensure the required Mechanical Integrity audit is completed by a qualified contractor every 5 years.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are written and up to date for all applicable tasks and ensure operators have read and understand these procedures.
  • Ensure training requirements for ammonia operators are established and followed, assist in training as needed.
  • Ensure that a Management of Change (MOC) is properly filled out and approved before any ammonia related mechanical work is performed on the plant ammonia system.
  • Ensure pre-startups are completed prior to ammonia being applied back to an area that has been repaired or modified.
  • Conduct routine ammonia compliance audits and track the performance of the necessary repairs.
  • Attend government and company sponsored training sessions on RMP, PSM, Cal-ARP and other regulations as they are implemented.
  • Ensure incident investigations are performed for all ammonia incidents and near misses. Keep accurate record of investigation reports and ensure corrective actions are tracked and completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all contractors are certified to work on and near ammonia systems in the plant.
  • Ensure the emergency planning and response plan as it pertains to ammonia incidents is accurate and useful. Also, work with local emergency response team and conduct a minimum of one full-scale ammonia drill per year with the local response team and another drill with plant employees.
  • Perform process hazard assessment per RMP regulations every three years.
  • Ensure plant is compliant with all Homeland Security regulations that pertain to chemical security.
  • Prepare all documentation for submission to Federal, State, and local agencies for approval by plant and corporate personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental agencies and track all permits and certifications. This includes but not limited to Air Emissions, Hazardous Material, Hazardous Waste, Release Reporting, SPCC, Storm Water, Waste Water etc.

  • Prepare and review air permit applications, air emissions inventories, and regulatory compliance documentation
