Job Description Johnson Service Group (JSG) is currently looking for a Senior Structural Engineer. This is a direct hire opportunity with an EPC company located in Mobile, Alabama Pay $175K with full benefits. Job Summary: Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and designers when functioning as a lead engineer. As lead engineer, responsibilities include total delivery of the civil/structural deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Duties may include performing advanced engineering work serving as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in civil/structural engineering and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under minimal supervision. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Reviewing and approving all civil/structural deliverables.
  • Validating professional service and construction estimates at the beginning of a project, and then tracking changes as the project progresses.
  • Producing professional service estimates in accordance with the department standards for project deliverables, project studies and estimates, change notices and for the development of new work through proposal efforts.
  • Establishing the design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimate and/or scope basis and design basis meeting applicable state, local and federal standards and codes. Ensuring that any requirements for permitting have been established and communicated to the project team.
  • Knowing project scope and deliverables. Initiating timely change notices when deviation is made from project scope, affecting schedule, deliverables or cost of the work.
  • Planning and organizing the work of your team. Communicating the plan to your team, the project leadership team and the client.
  • Maintaining control of the project by tracking and maintaining discipline performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards. Understanding and utilizing the project tools that are in place for project control.
  • Delegating work to engineers and designers in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then following up for support to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then following up for support to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-off suitable for the level of estimate being performed on a project.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.
  • Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.
  • Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by drafters/designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.
  • Producing project designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.
  • Checking calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice.
  • Producing construction specifications.
  • Monitoring drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. Ensuring that sufficient sketches and details are provided for completion of engineering drawings.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
  • Producing bid packages enabling civil/structural purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
  • Participating in the planning of training programs, continuous education opportunities and professional development of staff.
  • Ability to lead small to large size teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts and keeping the team focused on scope, schedule and budget.
  • Ability to identify and develop work sharing packages for interoffice execution support. Provide leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule and budget.
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required. Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions. Registration: Professional registration is highly preferred. Directs the development of models, drawings, and specifications. Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and signs off on completed designs. Skills and Abilities:

  • Duties in this key position involve the investigation and analysis of residential, commercial, and industrial properties for the purpose of resolving claims and legal matters.

  • The Civil Structural Engineer will leverage advanced Engineering knowledge and experience, working in close coordination with Project Managers (PM), the Director of Engineering, and engineering team members.
  • The Civil Structural Engineer will support, and be part of multiple projects, within the company's office and data center locations to lead, oversee, review, and/or execute the structural engineering and design of Power Distribution Buildings, and Motor Control Center Building projects.
  • The Civil Structural Engineer will oversee, review, and/or execute structural engineering tasks for a variety of industrial structural members such as rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes.
Requirements
  • ENGINEERING DUTIES:
  • Engineering duties include detailed design, calculations, and detailing for fabrication or development of loading and concept drawings for submittal to to the company's production floor steel fabrication
  • Lead, oversee, review, and/or execute foundation design tasks for industrial power and datacenter structures, including drilled piers, spread footings, driven piles, and potentially other types, using industry standard software

  • Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for project deliverables per the Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world class quality product to the client

  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards

Design engineer will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel. This position will require technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field of Structural Engineering. The structural engineer will provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab, oversight of outside engineering firms, and machine installations. The structural engineer must be proficient with developing structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (concrete, steel, masonry, cold-formed steel, timber), structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting (or oversight of drafting), and preparation of construction specifications (generally in the form of general notes on the drawings). Must be familiar with consensus design codes. CAD drafting experience not required but preferred, along with any 3D modelling experience.   • Bachelor's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

What You'll Be Doing

Job Summary: Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete design of complex civil/structural engineering assignments. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in civil/structural engineering and involves applying advanced engineering techniques and analysis.   • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. Responsibility to furnish sufficient sketches and details necessary for completion of engineering drawings.

  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.

  • Advising the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes, which have been identified.

  • Assisting other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings and specifications into a "package", enabling civil/structural purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.

  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Provide subject matter expertise (SME) for structural design and engineering of marine infrastructure projects such as bulkheads, wharfs, bridge pilings, harbors, docks, breakwaters, and shoreline protection systems.

Knowledgeable in engineering software, specifically, LPILE and MathCAD, SAP2000 and/or Risa3D, and MFAD and/or Shaft and/or spMats. General knowledge of engineering standards including AISC Steel Construction Manuel, ACI 318, ASCE 7 and 113, and IBC. Division New Millennium Overview Assist engineering department in ensuring sound engineering design of product through all stages of development. Responsibilities
  • Design steel joists, joist girders and steel decking according to Steel Joist Institute and Steel Deck Institute standards.
  • Roof/floor designs for projects ranging from retail buildings, schools, warehouses, etc.
  • Design structural steel and connections to applicable codes and standards

Job Description: Seeking a strong Civil / Structural Engineer with Oil & Gas and/or refining experience. This position is for a mid-level or senior level Civil / Structural engineer capable of determining specific client requirements and acquiring detailed understanding of project Civil / Structural design requirements, schedule, and deliverables. This position requires that the incumbent have the ability to create C/S designs while working independently or with other engineers or designers. This position requires experience and familiarity with materials and equipment associated with, petrochemical, refineries, oil and gas pipelines and associated facilities including but not limited to compressor stations, pump stations, mainline valve sites, refinery units and layouts, meter stations, storage facilities and terminals.   • Preparation of various Civil / Structural related studies/calculations to include wind load, seismic, as well as other required calculations to satisfy local permitting authorities.
  • Contributes to the development of client proposals and project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Have a complete understanding of facility requirements including site specific design criteria and PE stamping requirements for design documents.
Qualifications Qualifications Required: EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in engineering with focus on civil and structural from an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum experience required is 15 years.
  • Must have extensive and in depth experience in industrial / commercial civil and structural engineering in the petrochemical, oil and gas industries
LICENSING:
  • Professional engineer (PE) is required or eligible to obtain a professional engineering license.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
