Key Responsibilities:

Evaluates renewal discretion requests from our sales and broker partners.

Reviews life over guaranteed issue applications.

Review and analyze new business cases during the installation process.

Communicates effectively with sales to gather information and clarify sold case details.

Maintains accurate records of all underwriting activities to ensure compliance with company policies and requirements.

Collaborates with team members to streamline processes and improve the efficiency of the underwriting department.

Provides exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues related to underwriting processes.

This position is responsible for implementing the policies, procedures and corporate strategies as set forth by Senior Management and the SVP - Mortgage Loan Operations. This position will supervise the Underwriting Team while providing quality, consistent and timely underwriting of mortgage loans in compliance with secondary market and Centra Credit Union guidelines, focusing on more difficult requests, and properly executing within Centra's Board-approved Credit Risk Appetite. Spanish/English interpreters may be eligible for an interpreting differential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position may be required to perform additional duties as requested.   • Provides direction for Underwriting Team, ensuring that the Underwriter queue is managed in an efficient manner.
  • Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of real estate laws, regulations, and secondary market guidelines, ensuring that Underwriting Team are trained and adhere to these requirements.
  • Develops skills of Team Members through a combination of goal setting, delegation, training, counseling, and performance management.
  • Assists in maintaining credit quality targets through proper underwriting controls and adherence to lending policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all mortgage loans are underwritten to Centra and secondary market guidelines as well as all applicable lending laws and regulations.
  • Develops and updates written procedures regarding underwriting functions, product guidelines, and applicable workflows. Performs an on-going review, ensuring that they meet the needs of the credit union and are following State, Federal and investor guidelines.
  • Reviews loan applications for underwriting requirements. Responsible for analyzing and verifying that the employment profile, credit strength and property characteristics of the transaction meets secondary market and Centra guidelines.
  • Answers questions and solves problems on loan inquiries from MLO's, Processors and Closers.
  • Communicates effectively with other members of Mortgage management, identifying tactics to better streamline overall Mortgage delivery process and to improve Member Experience and Team Member Experience, with a dedicated focus on decreasing Turn-times.
  • Coordinates with Secondary Market Manager to ensure appropriate backups are in place for significant functions in this area, including establishing daily rates, validating rate locks, obtaining forward commitments, and delivering loans to investors.
  • Assists in preparing monthly audit files.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of Mortgage Underwriting. Supervisory duties include performance management, training and development, and demonstrating and cultivating Centra's Vision, Mission, Culture, and Core Values.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - (Equivalent combination of Education & Experience will be considered.)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Related Field

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
