Title: Lead AV Technician - Buffalo

Department: Operations

Reports To: Project Manager or Account Executive

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

This position is responsible and accountable for directing and overseeing a team of technicians responsible for the installation of hardware components of audio-visual systems ensuring all financial, programmatic and operating systems meet established targets. This position reports to a Project Manager and is a member of the Operations team supporting the mission and goals of a "Best in Class" sales and AV integration program. As an experienced member of a dynamic installation operation, the Lead AV Technician will work independently to coordinate, receive, inventory, assemble and install AV equipment on job site locations to comply with the company's policies and procedures, including quality, safety, environmental, and business practices.

Essential job functions, duties and responsibilities:

This position is responsible for independently coordinating and overseeing teams responsible for the process of receiving, inventorying, assembling and installing AV equipment on job site locations. This position requires a variety of duties including construction labor as well as installation, troubleshooting and repair but not limited to:

  • Directing the actions of others and be able to complete installations independently
  • Coordinating, scheduling, and directing one or more installation teams and to ensure appropriate travel arrangements and accommodations when required
  • Being responsible for the training and oversight of level one and level two technicians working at job sites and assisting them in attaining higher level certifications
  • Moving and/or repositioning large equipment or wiring supplies. Individuals must be able to lift and carry heavy objects of 75 lbs. unassisted and to steady objects above shoulder height while fastened into place by co-workers
  • Trouble-shooting audio and video equipment installations
  • Installing and terminating cables with the appropriate solder or compression connector
  • Drilling in drywall, concrete, and cinderblock for the purpose of installing projectors, projection screens, cameras, and speaker systems
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Working on ladders and lifts at heights in excess of 10ft
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Prior AV team leadership and management experience (2-4 years)
  • CTS-I certification or the ability to achieve certification within 60 days of start date
  • Successfully complete criminal background check, motor vehicle review, physical and drug test prior to start
  • Strong communication skills and experience directing teams
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with standard office productivity software including Google, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience and comfort with hand tools, small power tools and industrial tools
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly
  • Ability to make important decisions under tight timelines and in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-solving and time management skills
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Valid driver's license with less than two citations in last two years and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and complete ladder and other safety training

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and directing one or more AV technician teams on job sites
  • Requesting and coordinating the travel and accommodation needs of AV technician teams
  • Managing and maintaining the relationships with customer point-of-contacts at various job sites

Working Conditions:

Work can be in normal comfortable air-conditioned environments, but will also include less comfortable cold or hot construction environments and on rare occasion, tasks require work outdoors

Job Location: Job sites will vary throughout the Buffalo, NY metropolitan area. Residency within 60 miles of Buffalo, NY is required. As a national company, opportunities to work at job sites across the country are also available.

Position Purpose & Objectives

The Lead AV Technician is responsible for directing and overseeing installation teams in the deployment of professional audio-visual (AV) systems, with a strong emphasis on educational environments (K-12 and higher education). This role ensures installations are completed to AVIXA standards , project specifications, and ITC's quality and safety guidelines.

The Lead AV Technician provides technical leadership on-site, supports the professional development of junior technicians, and ensures that all installations meet compliance, performance, and client satisfaction expectations. This position reports to a Project Manager and is part of the Operations team supporting ITC's mission of delivering Best-in-Class AV integration solutions .

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Project Execution

  • Direct and oversee AV installation teams, ensuring work complies with AVIXA/InfoComm standards , manufacturer guidelines, and ITC procedures.
  • Coordinate day-to-day project activities including scheduling, work assignments, and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Provide on-site problem-solving, technical expertise, and serve as the primary technical contact for clients and project managers.
  • Train, coach, and mentor junior technicians to develop technical and professional skills, supporting advancement toward certifications (CTS, CTS-I).
  • Ensure job sites are professional, safe, and represent ITC with a high level of customer satisfaction.

Technical Duties

  • Install and commission AV equipment such as projectors, displays, interactive boards, cameras, control systems, DSPs, and speaker systems with an emphasis on classroom and lecture hall environments.
  • Terminate, test, and label AV cabling in accordance with AVIXA standards and ITC's quality benchmarks.
  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and adjustments to confirm functionality and performance.
  • Accurately interpret signal flow diagrams, architectural drawings, and wiring schematics.
  • Work in diverse construction environments: drilling, mounting, working on lifts (above 10 ft.), and accessing confined spaces as required.

Collaboration & Client Interaction

  • Maintain effective communication with Project Managers, Account Executives, and clients regarding progress, issues, and site conditions.
  • Represent ITC professionally with customers, acting as a trusted technical leader.
  • Provide feedback on project workflows, identifying opportunities to improve installation processes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Leadership Experience: 2-4 years in a lead or supervisory AV installation role.
  • Certifications:
    • CTS required.
    • CTS-I must be achieved within 3 months.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Knowledge of AVIXA standards and best practices for educational installations.
    • Proficiency with AV control systems (Crestron, Extron, AMX), DSPs (Biamp, QSC), and video/audio distribution.
    • Familiarity with classroom-specific technologies: lecture capture systems, wireless presentation, distance learning tools, etc.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
    • Ability to problem-solve under tight timelines.

  • Other Requirements:

TITLE AUDIO SPECIALIST DESCRIPTION

Mills James is seeking a talented Audio Specialist to work with the production team to set up equipment for safe and timely installation and operation at live events. Serves as A1 or A2 onsite as needed, leading a crew of staff, freelancers, and vendors to implement the creative vision. Maintains and prepares audio equipment in service of the above.

This is a hands-on role requiring extensive knowledge of live event audio systems. You will also provide on-site leadership and support for events, ensuring flawless execution and a high level of service. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty and other duties that may be assigned. In some instances where a Producer or Production Manager is not present, all Audio Direction may be at your own discretion • Provide appropriate paperwork to facilitate installation, patching, tuning, and operation of audio equipment. • Manage inventories of expendables and replacement parts for audio equipment. • Evaluate freelancers as to their suitability to perform audio-related functions. • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Proficiency in the implementation of live audio technologies and concepts, including: line-array and point source speaker system design/layout, frequency management, wired and wireless microphone operation, EQing, digital and analog mixing, playback, and recording. Advanced troubleshooting and problem solving. • Must learn and become adept at using Mills James Mediapulse facilities management software. • Valid driver's license and medical card required. May require CDL; May also be required to obtain a US Passport. Must be available for 60% travel and work flexible hours.
