Database Analyst I

DPP is seeking a Database Analyst for an opportunity in Columbia, SC. Work arrangement:
  • Hybrid: fully onsite until trained; then onsite 3 days/week and as needed
  • W2 position; 6 months
  • Candidates who are foreign nationals must have resided in the US for at least three (3) of the last five (5) years prior to assignment to the client's applicable government contract.
Position summary:
  • The Database Analyst will support day-to-day operations: work action requests from customers when assigned, install patches and upgrades, work assigned days as "Hot Seat" routing new customer requests to the team, participate in regular meetings and workgroups with the DBAs and data analytics staff. Recent hands-on experience is required.
  • Participate in the modernization effort including implementing an IBM P10 data warehouse, moving from AIX servers to Linux, implementing Python to replace SAS, implementing new security measures and SSO, and implementing DevOps/DevSecOps.
  • We're looking for a detail-oriented and self-motivated professional who can manage tasks independently, contribute to team projects, and support knowledge sharing across the team. The ideal candidate brings a collaborative mindset, a passion for improving systems and processes, and a strong foundation in database architecture. Creativity and a forward-thinking approach to data solutions are highly valued.
Required technologies:

About the team:
  • The team consists of 14 members and maintains a strong collaborative dynamic. It includes a mix of local and remote staff.
  • Daily video meetings are required to foster a sense of in-person connection.
  • The team handles systems and database administration within a larger Medicare Statistical Analysis Department.
  • Their data warehouse now supports functions beyond statistical analysis.
  • They are currently undergoing a two-year modernization initiative to replace all existing systems.
Minimum required work experience:
  • 5 years of IT experience including varied database administration experience.
Required education/equivalencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related degree;
  • OR, Associates degree in CS, IT, or other job-related degree plus 2 years of work-related experience;

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is currently seeking a Database Content Developer (Associate or Mid-Level) to become part of the Visual Systems Terrain Environments team, where you will help build visual database content for the next generation of flight simulators to train military pilots. Terrain Environments is responsible for the design, development, and integration of visual and sensor content optimized for real-time rendering on the training device. This position is located in Hazelwood, Missouri.

Position Responsibilities

  • Uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to manipulate and modify data to desired standard for use in project to include creation of airfield models.

  • Generates terrain mesh from satellite imagery and elevation data.

  • Models and textures 3D environment and assets like terrain, props, building exteriors, and vehicles.

  • Collaborates closely with engineering teams to establish requirements and expectations.

  • Analyzes and fixes bugs with models and visual databases such problems with normals, textures, UV maps, edge flow, rendering defects, and other problems found in 3D models.

  • Supports team to develop and document processes, tools and procedures.

  • Works under general supervision.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 2+ years of experience with GIS tools and geospatial concepts

  • 2+ years of experience with visual database creation tools and concepts

  • 2+ years of experience with 3D modeling software and concepts

  • 1+ years of experience with photo-editing and texturing tools and concepts

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Associate's Degree or higher

  • 3+ years of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience working with either of the following GIS software packages: QGIS version 3.1 or newer or Blue Marble Global Mapper version 19 or newer.

  • Experience working with Presagis/CAE Creator version 16 or newer.

  • Experience working with Adobe Photoshop version CS5 or newer, or equivalent.

  • Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: 3D model/terrain modeling packages such as Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3D Max, or Blender Foundation Blender; image manipulation programs such as GIMP; content development for OpenSceneGraph or gaming engines; version control tools such as Subversion, ClearCase or GIT.

  • Experience working with Presagis/Argenium TerraVista version 16 or newer.

  • Knowledge of flight simulation and visual database terminology.

  • Knowledge of FAA airfield standards.

  • Experience working with database standard industry data sources such as NGA data sets (DAFIF, DTED, TFADS, FLIPs, SAC/AFD, CADRG, CIB, etc.).

  • Familiarity with GIS data sets such as Open Street Map or land use data.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Salesforce Administrator Assistant Manager, the Database and Reporting Specialist is responsible for the configuration and oversight of a custom database, including data quality review and performance report development.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the configuration of a custom database or Salesforce CRM
  • Condense large, often complex data into clear, concise, easy-to-understand observations
  • Analyze large volumes of data to review performance, quality, and trending
  • Collaborate with decision makers by collecting, analyzing data, and reporting results
  • Assists team members with tasks or projects with vigilance and attention to detail and communication potential risk factors to support the well-being of the organization
  • Consult with contractors and staff to effectively produce requested reports, analyze requirements, and convert specifications into computer code
  • Document and upkeep program requirements, objectives, and advancements. Seek input from both internal and external stakeholders and aid in implementing the program
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports, presentations, maps, or charts based on research, collection, and analysis of data
  • Develop reports, test and debug errors, and validate results
  • Facilitate training sessions for SEMCA Contractors, program users and participants
  • Provide technical assistance to SEMCA Contractors in ensuring the data entered into applications and systems meet high-quality standards

Non-Essential Functions

  • Represent SEMCA at internal and external meetings
  • Assist in developing departmental policies to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Qualifications

All SEMCA team members are expected to be technically competent and committed to continuous development of their skills. The following skills, knowledge and education or certifications are specifically required for this position:

  • Associate degree in computer science or equivalent experience as outlined in SEMCA's Education in Lieu of Experience policy
  • 1-3 years' relevant experience
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to apply analytical techniques to a wide variety of data
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and apply solutions, including identification of potential causes
  • Ability to positively impact the organization in assigned functional area through contributions to program delivery
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, deadlines and responsibilities
  • Flexible and adaptable to fast paced, changing environments, detail oriented, and driven
  • Ability to maintain reasonable and responsible use of resources
  • Position requires effective listening skills, communication of ideas outside the immediate team, and ability to recognize impact of communication style on others; may have to communicate management initiatives, instructions, and policies in a consistent, effective, and timely manner.
  • Proficient at translating Contractor's data requests into reports
  • Proficient with SQL

Physical Demands

Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials on an LCD screen and smartphone, hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and over the telephone.
