Responsibilities
  • The Senior Associate Director of Development for the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences will design and execute a personal solicitation program resulting in philanthropic support by maximizing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects for gifts at the $100,000 and up level. This individual will secure, on an annual basis, private support at the major gift range and will also be responsible for identification of potential major gift prospects. This individual will be expected to uphold and exemplify the operating practices and mission of the Foundation.
  • Works with the Dean, Assistant Dean for Development, and other members of the College's development, communication and alumni team to develop and execute strategic fundraising initiatives on behalf of the College, the University and the Foundation. Develops, coordinates and executes an annual major gift plan of the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, implementing fund-raising activities designed to meet an established monetary goal. Establishes new relationships resulting in philanthropic revenue, maintains existing relationships which may generate new philanthropic revenue, and provides prospect/donor-related assessments of the performance of the College of Human Sciences and the FSU Foundation. Identifies, qualifies and sustains a donor prospect portfolio with individuals who have a giving capacity of $100,000 or more. Secures gifts and pledges from alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of FSU.
  • Prepares proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation. Prepares correspondence with prospects and documents communications, solicitation activity and gift information in compliance with Foundation reporting guidelines. Creates, inspires and maintains donor loyalty, interest and enthusiasm through stewardship communication and activities designed to express recognition, appreciation and the impact of their gift(s). Implementation of such a stewardship plan may include but should not be limited to letters, communication of unit or university initiatives, invitations to appropriate activities, meetings, events, student engagement or the facilitation of campus visits.
  • Coordinates with FSU Foundation colleagues to identify prospects for planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, and major giving. Exhibits and promotes a comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic priorities of the college unit, effectively matching the specific interests of prospects to those specific needs. Assists in the facilitation of meetings, communications, informational exchanges and project/philanthropic coordination with the faculty and faculty chairs. Plans for and initiates direct activities with prospects that are designed to enhance the affiliation between the prospect and the University. Protects confidential information. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree and five years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and nine years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to nine years.)
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of fundraising or comparable sales experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in one of the broad areas of program coverage: education, health sciences, and/or sports.

Who is an ideal candidate for this position? The ideal candidate will be a skilled problem solver with a natural curiosity, love of lifelong learning, and enthusiasm for the work of others. They will work hard to understand the needs of the college and communicate those needs effectively to donors at the major gift level down to annual support. Strong communication skills are required as well as an affinity for relationship building with external constituents and internal stakeholders.

What is a typical day in this position? Senior Associate Directors of Development utilize a moves management strategy to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 100-125 major gift donor relationships. The typical day may involve planning travel to visit prospects in a major market, meeting with local faculty member to discuss program needs and having coffee with a major donor prospect to solicit their support. The job is as customizable as the individual relationships in the portfolio, but all lead to better supporting the College.

What can I expect in the first 60-90 days? New Senior Associate Directors of Development can expect to spend much of their first 90 days in conversation with faculty and chairs, learning about the programs and the college, attending college events, and working with prospect research and management to build a portfolio of prospects for qualification, cultivation, and solicitation. Within the first 90 days, the candidate might also anticipate taking a minimum of 3-4 prospecting trips to major markets to begin building relationships and soliciting support.

    • Leads the development and facilitation of a CRLA peer educator workshop series designed to train potential peer mentors and tutors.
    • Keeps necessary logs for maintaining or advancing CRLA certification for all peer educator programs.
    • Collaborates with the Faculty Director of the Alice F. Randall Writing Center to explore options for achieving international certification from the College Reading and Learning Association for peer writing consultants and peer writing associates.
    Student Coaching and Development
    • Maintains a caseload of undergraduate students, conducting individual meetings and creating personal action plans for student success at the University.
    • Collaborates with the CSS staff members and the Director to develop and facilitate workshops designed for Christopher Newport students as a whole.
    Special Programs
    • Development of curriculum and programs to support student retention and completion by eliminating barriers to persistence and graduation.
    • Specific programs include summer transition programs, such as Launch, and support programs for underrepresented groups, such as first-generation college students.
    • Develops an assessment plan to determine overall effectiveness of the program.
    • Reviews programs at least annually, but in some cases each semester, to determine viability.
    • Makes recommendations for improvement to the Director.
    Recruitment and Outreach
    • Routinely participates and represents the Center in prospective student recruitment events, pipeline programs, new student orientation sessions, Community Captains Programs, staff meetings, and student community engagement events.
    Classroom Instruction
    • On an as-needed basis, assists with the instructional component of college transition courses, such as COLL 140: The Transitional Learner and COLL 150: The Intentional Learner, within the parameters determined by the Senior Director, the Associate Vice President or the Vice President. NOTE: Candidates must have earned a Master's Degree in a related field to be eligible to teach.
    • Assists with the development of the curriculum for COLL 140: The Transitional Learner to meet the needs for transitioning new students to the university environment. Will also design an assessment plan to determine overall impact on student retention and degree completion.
    • Makes recommendations for improvement to the Director.
    Reports
    • Compiles and analyzes data to evaluate and assess areas of responsibility and makes recommendations to the Director and Senior Director.

    Position Summary

    Freedom Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide individualized instruction, support, and services to students with disabilities in grades K-8. This teacher will develop and implement effective, legally compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborate with colleagues and families, and ensure that all students are supported in reaching their academic and social-emotional potential. Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Student Support

    • Provide direct instruction to students in individual, small group, and inclusion settings based on IEP goals
    • Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs
    • Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in students' IEPs

    IEP Development & Implementation

    • Develop, write, and maintain IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state guidelines
    • Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
    • Conduct assessments for initial, annual, and triennial evaluations

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administration to support inclusive practices
    • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and services
    • Participate in and lead IEP meetings, ensuring parents and team members are fully informed

    Compliance & Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, services, and communication
    • Ensure all timelines, reports, and documentation meet legal and district requirements
    • Support the school in maintaining compliance during audits and reviews

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred)
    • Valid Arizona Special Education teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain one
    • Knowledge of IDEA, state-specific special education regulations, and instructional best practices
    • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
    • Proficiency with IEP software platforms and educational technology tools

      As a Special Education Aide, you will be instrumental in implementing behavior support plans, collecting data on student progress, and working collaboratively to ensure each student receives the necessary support to thrive.
