Electrical Engineer

Job Summary: The Electrical Engineer will design, develop, and test electrical systems and controls for HVAC manufacturing, with a primary focus on electrical starter and control panel design, switchboard fabrication, and plant facility oversight. Key Responsibilities:

Familiarity with product safety certification processes (ETL, AHRI) is an advantage.

Electrical Engineer - Substation

Connexus Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer. This role will work collaboratively to help maintain the Connexus Energy substations and distribution system by coordinating construction schedule, review maintenance logs, and help manage the records for new and existing Connexus Energy substations. Also, by programing, troubleshooting, and interpreting event logs of substation protective relays.

Location:

Work for this position can be performed both on-site at our campus located at 14601 Ramsey Blvd, Ramsey, MN 55303, and from your local home office as duties require. While this position is designated as a hybrid role, based on current policy, hires must reside in or relocate within commuting distance to our office in Ramsey, MN.

Compensation:

The anticipated hiring range for this role is between $36.54 and $47.95 hourly. The final compensation offered is based on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience and skill level. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of annual earnings based on company performance.

In this position you will:

  • Maintain protective relay devices to protect substation equipment. Help assist in retrieving and interpreting historical events for diagnostics.
  • Work with consultants on the design and construction schedules of electrical substation projects. Prepare and track substation project schedules.
  • Perform on-site inspections to ensure specifications are met.
  • Help coordinate substation maintenance to ensure reliability and extend substation equipment life.
  • Review the results of substation maintenance records and assist in plans for any required corrective actions.
  • Maintain the substation file management system to ensure substation records are up to date and easily accessible.
  • Make minor changes to substation drawings, as updates require.
  • Maintain Line Regulators, and line device programming. Help with integration of new Automation equipment on both distribution lines as well as inside the substations.

Need to have:

  • Bachelor's in electrical engineering with power systems emphasis
  • Current and valid driver's license

  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) Certificate

    Requirements

    Requirements for the Senior Engineer requirements include:

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college/university.
    • A minimum of five or more years' experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems, or related professional experience.
    • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
    • Understanding of Company's business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations and the National Electric Codes (if required for the position).
    • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
    • Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.
    • Proficient with the use of personal computers, plotters, printers, and other general office equipment.

    In addition to the above, the Senior Engineer II requirements include:

    • A minimum of six or more years' experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in a specialty area of electrical engineering.
    • Utilize project management and leadership skills to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver commitments.
    • Ability to achieve an understanding and adhere to company's objectives, policies, procedures, and practices.
    • Demonstrate professional oral and written communication and collaboration skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and make recommendations.

    In addition to the above, the Principal Engineer requirements include:

    • A minimum of 10 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
    • A PE license may be required.
    • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
    • Highest level of communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
    • Expert knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty. Understanding of the Company's business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.

    We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineering Manager to be responsible for developing and improving technical products, systems and processes related to the electrical discipline to meet specified requirements and standards. Oversee all aspects of the electrical engineering discipline and supervise/mentor the electrical hardware and software teams.     Your Key Responsibilities

    • Manages the electrical hardware and software engineering teams in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
    • Assigns tasks, monitors schedules and deadlines, and takes ownership of the quality and timeliness of engineering deliverables to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Acts as subject matter expert and escalation path for the electrical discipline
    • Provides quality control reviews of project work/design changes, etc.
    • Oversees maintenance of intercompany hardware and software tools interfacing with CAD/ERP systems
    • Establishes and maintains communication channels with counterparts in other Doppelmayr offices to promote efficient design that is consistent with global standards
    • Performs electrical project engineering activities for complex and special projects
    • Mentors team members to promote growth and interdepartmental cross training.
    • Ensures design and implementation of control circuits (24 VDC and 575VAC and below) are compliant with applicable codes and standards (i.e. ANSI B77.1, Z98, NEC, etc.)
    • Provides support to the Electrical Customer Service department with troubleshooting
    • Provides support to the sales team throughout the quotation and bidding process
    • Ensures that the company and internal department quality objectives are met
    • Implements and manages the department's continual improvement plans

    Your Profile

    • 7-10 years of experience required, preferably in control systems engineering
    • Expertise in the application of PLC and relay logic control system design principles and best practices
    • Clear understanding of the application of AC and DC drives, motors and control circuitry
    • Clear understanding of safety PLC, standard PLC, and HMI software and hardware integration
    • Proficiency in E-Plan, AutoCAD Electrical, InterCAD, or equivalent electrical CAD software
    • Experience designing power distribution systems 600VAC - 120VAC
    • Ability to maintain a professional attitude when communicating with customers as well as domestic and international colleagues.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to occasionally travel to support complex system startup and commissioning activities
