Lab Assistant

As a Lab Assistant at MercyOne, you may work in various laboratory departments to collect blood specimens from hospital patients, work with microbiology or anatomic pathology specimens, or work independently at remote Patient Service Centers. Creates patient encounters, orders laboratory tests, and prepares specimens for testing. Assists technical personnel in sample log-in, testing workflow, and specimen tracking, as appropriate for patient age including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.

  • Accurately and efficiently performs venipunctures, and finger sticks ensuring collection of proper specimens for testing and ensuring patient safety.

  • Prepares specimens for testing.

  • Accepts specimens and requisitions from external and internal customers utilizing excellent customer service skills.

  • Identifies patients/specimens using two unique patient identifiers and accurately labels specimen containers.

  • Correctly registers specimens and logs into Laboratory Information System (LIS) appropriate to department where testing is to be performed as needed, or evaluates specimen adequacy and acceptability and logs into LIS.

  • Performs specimen processing as needed. For example, proper identification, aliquoting, plate streaking, preparing slides, special handling, and required documentation.

  • Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and bloodborne pathogens.

  • Handles chemicals according to established safety protocols.

  • Meets defined workload productivity standards. Supports and utilizes LEAN principles.

  • Works proficiently with laboratory information systems and personal computers.

  • Follows established procedures and policies to obtain optimal test turn-around-times.

  • Participates in teaching peers.

  • Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing good customer service skills and knowledge of the laboratory.

  • Follows up on and documents out of range temperatures.

Schedule: Full Time Days M-F 8am-5pmGeneral Requirements:

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within 3 months of hire.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory experience preferred.

  • Computer skills required

Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) working in the Blood Bank plays a key role in supporting safe and timely transfusion care by performing specialized testing on blood products. This includes blood typing, antibody screening, compatibility testing, and investigating transfusion reactions. Working closely with pathologists, nurses, and physicians, the CLS ensures patients receive appropriate blood components while maintaining high standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

Essential Work Functions:
  • Perform routine and complex immunohematology testing including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, and compatibility testing
  • Oversee and validate blood bank test results, troubleshoot serologic discrepancies, and authorize release of blood products
  • Operate and calibrate blood bank instruments with knowledge of gel cards, solid-phase systems, and automated blood group analyzers
  • Investigate transfusion reactions and other serologic discrepancies, providing timely and accurate reports
  • Communicate critical results and crossmatch findings to healthcare providers in urgent and routine care settings
  • Ensure compliance with AABB, CAP, CLIA, FDA, and other regulatory standards, actively preparing for audits and inspections
  • Maintain accurate records of blood product inventory and daily workload logs
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:

Essential Functions

  • Oversight of team training and assessments, check-ins, coaching, audits, department scheduling, advanced troubleshooting, problem resolution, or other pre-analytical responsibilities as needed.
  • Caregivers in this role are proficient at LA and/or Phlebotomist skills and lead pre-analytical teams that perform functions such as phlebotomy, specimen processing, waived or moderate complexity testing, and clinical research studies.
  • Leaders in this capacity act as a liaison between ancillary services, nurses, clinicians, and laboratory clients, and may serve as a representative on various teams, system work groups, and continuous improvement projects. Pre-analytical Lab Coordinators monitor Caregiver adherence to expectations, policies and procedures, and may participate in corrective actions. These caregivers also assist with interviewing and hiring.
  • The Pre-analytical Lab Coordinator is resilient and can manage stressful situations in a professional manner and deescalate these situations calmly and respectfully. In addition to filling in bench shifts and on-call when needed, the Pre-analytical Lab Coordinator may serve in a temporary Supervisor role during the absence of the department Supervisor/Manager.

General Job Description

General Job Description

The core mission of the Laborer is to support the fabrication, painting, and assembly of steel building structures in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality control hold points in an industrial manufacturing atmosphere. The Laborer needs to be flexible and willing to learn a range of tasks required by each project scope. These duties can include material handling, fabrication work, assembly work, painting, cleaning and more. The Laborer must understand written and verbal instruction.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program
  • Use hand and power tools to clean and prep steel
  • Material handling
  • Read and understand work orders and project task codes
  • Mix and prepare paint coatings
  • Apply paints and coatings in accordance with procedures and manufacturer's instructions
  • Accurately record quality data on cleaning and coating reports
  • Cleaning and maintaining the factory work areas and bathrooms

  • Understand and follow all workplace safety rules and the safe operation of tools and equipment when applicable

    Medical Laboratory Asst II - FT/Evenings/Molecular Diagnostics

    The Medical Laboratory Assistant II has responsibility for the processing, organizing, labeling, and transporting of specimens for laboratory testing. As an experienced and fully competent laboratory assistant, performs advanced functions such as phlebotomy and/or section-specific specialty tasks and serves as a role model and preceptor for other staff.     Role Overview

    The IT Solution Architect is responsible for participating in the management, design, enhancement, and support of the BY WMS and LM platforms.     Education & Qualifications

    Required Experience

    • 8-10 years of experience in Supply Chain, Distribution, or IT Solution Architecture roles.
    • 5+ years of direct hands-on experience supporting and configuring Blue Yonder Dispatcher WMS and Labor Management.
    • Proficiency in MOCA architecture, DBSRs, and custom screen and logic development in BY WMS.
    • Proven expertise in building and supporting MToolbox reports and dashboards.

    • Continuing Education/Development: attends, reads, or listens by tape to material of 10-12 in-house educational programs yearly; trains new staff in practices
    • Completes tasks or special projects within time frame as assigned, or as requested by Supervisors, Manager, or Director
    • Accreditation: follows CAP, AABB, Compliance, CLIA, JCAHO, and OSHA standards and prepares/participates in all applicable inspections
    • Follows established protocols for safety, infection control, security, compliance, and the use of hazardous materials

    Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

    • Histotechnologist (HLT) or Histologic tech (HT) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification (ASCP) or eligible preferred
