Qualifications Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Education, or related field.
  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) or eligibility for certification.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems.
  • Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings, preferably with deaf or hard of hearing students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey spoken and signed messages in a variety of contexts.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture, communication strategies, and accommodations for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The Department of Humanities, Communications, and Languages provides high-quality instruction in nine disciplines. Faculty in American Sign Language, Chinese, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), French, Humanities, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Spanish, and Speech contribute to the college's General Education curriculum by helping students acquire valuable critical thinking and communication skills, and by teaching them about creative human endeavors in the past and present, which inspire a better future. Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor will develop, prepare, and teach a variety of English as a Second Language (ESL) coursework. The Adjunct Assistant Professor must have the flexibility to teach courses during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats. Responsibilities and Duties Include:
  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelor's degree in English, Reading, Language Arts, Linguistics, Special Education, Foreign Language, TESOL, or a related discipline.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Preferred: A master's degree in a qualifying field with prior teaching experience within a community college setting.
