Mechanical Engineer III

DPP is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III for an opportunity in Wichita, Kansas. Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. Work arrangement:
  • Onsite in Wichita, KS
  • W2 position; 12 months
  • Must be eligible to earn a US security clearance, which requires a thorough background search and US citizenship.
Position description:
  • Mechanical Engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems.
  • You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.
  • The successful candidate will act as a technical focal for all aspects of aircraft Electrical Wiring and Interconnection Systems (EWIS) design and development.
Responsibilities:
  • Create harness assembly routings and installations
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to resolve system interferences
  • Provide guidance on design tool development and enhancements
  • EWIS component selection
  • Provide guidance and mentor to more junior engineers on the team.
Education/equivalencies:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
  • Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Significant experience with 3D harness routing and installation design CAD tools (e.g. CATIA, SolidWorks, NX)
  • Significant experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools (e.g. 3DExperience, Enovia SmarTeam, Teamcenter)
  • Familiar with Model Based Design (MBD) principles
  • Ability to effectively communicate EWIS system requirements to other engineering disciplines
  • Working knowledge of environmental electromagnetic effects and electromagnetic compatibility principles, as well as methods of protection and mitigation of those effects on EWIS.
  • Familiar with system safety principles and hazard mitigation methods
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Preferred:
  • Experience with Dassault Systems 3DExperince, Catia V5 or V6
  • Experience with Catia Electrical Workbench
Work environment:

Key Responsibilities

Independently, develops and implements concepts for range of significantly complex product issues and engineering solutions

In this role, you will utilize your strong technical and working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, energy management, hydraulics, material handling equipment, and conveyor systems to keep the Fulfillment Center running smoothly through all shifts.

What you bring to the table:

  • A mechanical aptitude, knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, pneumatics, ability to read blueprints/schematics including electrical schematics and troubleshoot complex automated electrical control systems
  • An ability to troubleshoot electrical/electronic challenges to repair motor control and lighting systems and work with high voltages (up to 480VAC) as well as low voltage DC electrical systems
  • An ability to use vendor manuals and procedures to perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting tasks
  • An ability to be trained and MHE certified to operate power material handling equipment, i.e. Forklift, Electric Pallet Jack, etc.

About the Role

A Mechanical Engineer in this role will design conveyors at a part and system level. This includes 3D modeling of conveyors, their components, as well as creating detailed drawings of parts. General Scope: designs, develops, and help testing all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery by performing the following duties:

Position Summary:

  • The Mechanical Engineer applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products used on maintenance of way equipment for the railroad industry.
  • The Mechanical Engineer is involved in the entire process, from sketching an idea through the manufacturing and testing of the finished product.
  • Throughout development, the mechanical design engineer works with other design engineers to identify any areas of the design that need to be altered or improved.
  • The Mechanical Engineer is required to analyzed and understand customer specifications and develop a workable machine layout from which designers can produce detailed sub assembly drawings.
  • The Mechanical Engineer compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
  • The Mechanical Engineer plans and develops experimental test programs.
  • The Mechanical Engineer analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • The Mechanical Engineer confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
  • The Mechanical Engineer evaluates engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other uses.
  • The Mechanical Engineer is familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures used in the field of maintenance of way type of equipment.
  • The Mechanical Engineer prepares work orders, engine specifications, and all supporting documentation for the construction of machines.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. Strong preference given to candidates with 5 to 10 years of experience in the field of heavy equipment machinery design.

Knowledge: Incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

Skills: Preferred skills:

  • Knowledge of the current ISO and ANSI (Y14) standards.
  • Working knowledge of the metric system and geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
  • Familiar with weldments, and machining operation.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
