Special Education Teacher, Autism & Behavior Support

Overview: POSITION PURPOSE: Coordinates and provides direct instructional programs relating to special education students and their Individual Education Programs (IEPs). Monitors and evaluates programs with students with disabilities, maintains confidentiality, and complies with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures as they relate to the special education program throughout the district. Maintains an environment conducive to learning. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional practices and delivery related to specially designed instruction;
  • Extensive knowledge of general content curriculum standards and age appropriate developmental expectations;
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal policies and procedures overseeing the services of students with disabilities;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and other applicable federal and state laws, policies, and regulations;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others;
  • Ability to motivate students;
  • Ability to constantly monitor and supervise the safety and well-being of students;
  • Ability to recognize and support students with a variety of backgrounds, abilities, exceptionalities, physical needs, and learning styles;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted);
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • First Aid and CPR certifications;
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develops IEPs for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs, as needed.
  2. Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools to provide specially designed instruction.
  3. Assists students in completing the curriculum tasks and to complete IEP goals.
  4. Employs a variety of teaching methods, strategies, accommodations and modifications to meet student needs; implements these methods and adapts and/or develops materials.
  5. Monitors student behavior; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies.
  6. Evaluates student's work and progress of assignments, address or adjust instruction to address any concerns or educational needs of the student and coordinate progress report grades and report card grades.
  7. Attends student's IEP meetings and serves as a collaborative team member.
  8. Stays abreast of trends, research, and best practices for instruction by attending professional development events, utilizing social media, and communicating with other professionals within and outside the district.
  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical requirements are consistent with those for medium work. School can contact the school's Physical Therapist for assistance, if needed, for proper lifting techniques. WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to work in a classroom and office environment, and come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, and the community. Purpose and Impact:

Performs duties planning and implementing educational activities for infants and toddlers in the Early Head Start Program that comply with federal performance standards. Participates in the HS/EHS Quality Assurance efforts.

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, develops and implements daily lesson plans that provide educational and enrichment activities for infants and toddlers that meet federal performance standards.
  • Plans and arranges classrooms into distinctive learning areas that promote an effective learning environment.
  • Screens and assesses infant and toddler aged children to determine developmental/educational needs and develops and implements individual education plans that comply with federal performance standards.
  • Monitors meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities for toddlers, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for infants and toddlers.
  • Documents children's progress or lack thereof and completes all required manual and computerized forms and reports in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Initiates referrals to the appropriate Head Start Teacher by submission of required paperwork.
  • Uses active supervision techniques and maintains positive classroom behavior.
  • Develop positive caregiver relationships with children.
  • Receives a satisfactory or higher score on the Infant/Toddler Specialist Success Rubric.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and on-going portfolio assessment for each child including weekly observations in each area, example of the child's work, and a developmental assessment.
  • Ensures that at least 80% of the children are ready for preschool.
  • Plans classroom activities for parents and community volunteers.
  • Attends and participates in workshops and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information.
  • Communicates with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, telephone and home visits to apprise them of child's progress, upcoming events, classroom activities, individual education plan changes, and other relevant information.
  • Conducts health checks on children for health concerns, including ringworm, head lice or other health conditions, and reports to appropriate nurse.
  • Reports suspected child abuse and neglect to designated state agency.
  • Plans, coordinates and oversees field trips for assigned children.
  • Requests supplies and equipment to be ordered for use by children in the classroom.
  • Inspects classrooms and grounds to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Discusses plans and coordinates concerns regarding the child and family with other Early Head Start staff.
  • Performs First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as needed.
  • Attends Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) training yearly.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Physical Requirements:

Education:

    Qualifications:

    This position requires a Master's degree from an accredited education program.     POSITION SUMMARY:

    Before and After School Program Teachers provide a reliable, safe, and fun environment for children to prepare for their school day and unwind from it. Assistant Teachers will assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of classroom activities for programs. Schedules vary, but require weekday availability, 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and/or 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Assists Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans
    • Prepares materials for daily activities
    • Maintains records of attendance, arrival, and departure times
    • Provides weekly lesson plans to parents

    4. Licensure & Certification

      • The MAT Program positions participants to obtain provisional licensure in Massachusetts by
        • Requiring all Associate Teachers to obtain their SEI endorsement through participation in a Match organized SEI course that is taught by a DESE approved course provider.
        • Providing guidance and information on completing certification requirements in Massachusetts

    What is the MAT experience?

    Match Associate Teachers (MATs) are placed on grade-level (K-5) or subject level (6-12), or Special Education teams, at Match Public Charter School for an intensive year-long apprenticeship. Throughout the year, our Associate Teachers are coached and mentored by expert teachers and leaders at Match and slowly assume more classroom responsibilities. MATs receive highly practical, hands-on training in effectively designing and implementing rigorous instruction, and in building classroom cultures consistent with achievement, purposefulness and joy. Through relentless feedback, coaching and classroom experience, MATs improve their teaching and planning expertise with the goal of becoming unusually effective rookie lead teachers at Match the following school year. This role is based at either Match Community Day School (100 Poydras St.), Match Middle School (at 215 Forest Hills St.) or Match High School (1001 Commonwealth Ave.) in Boston, MA.

    HOW IT WORKS

    Year 1(MAT Year):

    • The MAT year runs from August 1- July 31.
    • Match Associate Teachers (MATs) spend full days in the nationally acclaimed Match Charter Public School, which serves students in grades pre-K-12 in Boston.
    • MATs spend time daily in classrooms where they observe, assist, and ultimately assume student teaching responsibilities.
    • Throughout the year, MATs attend wrap-around training and support through professional development designed specifically for their cohort of roughly 15 MATs from across Match, as well as professional development with their campus based colleagues.
    • The MATs dedicated mentor teacher and school leaders provide frequent personalized feedback to MATs as they ramp up in their teaching responsibilities.
    • At the end of the apprenticeship year at Match, successful MATs, who have completed the required certification requirement will get the Massachusetts Provisional License, and are highly prioritized for open positions for the following school year.
    • To complete their training year, MATs teach Summer Academy at Match. This serves as the final segment of their apprenticeship as well as a transition from the MAT year into the first year of their lead teacher role.

    Year 2 (Lead Teaching Year 1):

    • MATs who successfully complete the program transition into their first year in a lead teacher role and continue to get coaching support from their supervisors

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities of a Match Associate Teacher gradually increase and include (but are not limited to):

    Serve as a teaching assistant in the classroom.

    • Observe and provide in-class support to a host teacher.
    • Actively receive and implement coaching from Match staff.
    • Teach in a host teachers classroom with a gradual increase in teaching responsibilities as the school year progresses.
    • Support the host teachers with grading, material development, family communication, etc.

    Provide coverage and support for the school.

    • Support school-wide duties (breakfast, lunch, dismissal, etc.) as needed.
    • Lead after-school activities, as needed.
    • Provide coverage for classrooms, as needed

    We have an opening for a Technology/Engineering Teacher to join the Match Middle School team for the school year. This position is located at Match Middle School on 215 Forest Hills St. in Jamaica Plain.

    The salary range for teachers new to Match is $61,812-98,899 and is determined by the candidates prior years of full-time teaching experience.
