Middle Market Financial Institutions Underwriter (Mid-Senior or Senior)

We've been dedicated to assembling a team of dedicated Middle Market leaders and underwriters who understand this space very deeply and who grasp the unique challenges of the various industry segments and the individual customers we serve. We are looking hire an experienced Financial Institutions Underwriter at the Mid-Senior or Senior level in our NYC Office. In this role, you will serve as a customer advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their unique risks and offering the best end-to-end solution for their Middle Markets Financial Institutions insurance needs. This position is hybrid with two days per week in the New York office. What you can expect in a Financial Institutions Underwriting Position in Middle Markets at Zurich:
  • You will develop and maintain relationships with brokers partners and customers across all industries in support of business objectives.
  • You will leverage your Financial Institutions underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
  • You will work collaboratively across business units including but limited to; claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting while gaining extensive knowledge in a growing and innovative industry.
  • You will be empowered to use your technical underwriting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.
This role will be filled at either as a Mid Senior or Senior Level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position. Basic Qualifications: Mid-Senior Level :
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
OR Senior Level :
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting o r Market Facing area (ADD POP addendum) OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience working in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Private Equity Middle Markets Underwriting experience in the Northeast Region
  • Ability to effectively assess risk
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong retail broker relationships
  • Superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
  • Possess knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
  • PC and related software skills
  • CPCU and ARM a plus
Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The combined salary range for this position is $92,900.00 - $201,300.00. The proposed salary range for the Mid-Senior level is $92,900.00 - $152,200.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. Responsibilities:
  • Draft, edit, and finalize Advance Planning Documents (APDs) including Planning APDs, Implementation APDs, APD updates, and Operational APDs in accordance with CMS guidelines and guidance, including 45 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 95.
  • Develop responses to requests for additional information for CMS.
  • Provide recommendations for streamlining the APD process.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize Operational Work Plans (OWPs) to support budget release requests to the Florida Legislature for the FX Program.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize the Schedule IV-B to support the annual legislative budget request for the FX Program.
  • Review federal regulations, policy updates, and CMS guidance and provide summaries and analyses of findings.
  • Analyze program and project information to accurately describe project, technical and operational aspects in APDs, OWPs, and Schedule IV-Bs.
  • Participate in assigned meetings.
  • Perform compliance and quality assurance reviews of documents prepared for state and federal entities. Edit documents as needed to comply with CMS requirements and Agency templates and correspondence guides.
  • Incorporate feedback from Agency staff, Agency leadership, FX support vendors, and CMS into revised drafts.
  • Coordinate with Agency staff and FX support vendors to obtain necessary inputs for documents.
  • Prepare presentation materials or summaries as needed for leadership briefings and CMS communications.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of business or technical writing experience.
  • Proven experience writing APDs, grant requests, or similar state or federal documents.
  • Strong understanding of CMS requirements, including 45 CFR Part 95 and related Medicaid IT guidance.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with state or federal health and human services agencies preferred.
