As a Graduate Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing the systems that make buildings safe, comfortable, efficient, and sustainable. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you'll help deliver innovative solutions for some of the world's most complex and high‑profile projects, from healthcare and education facilities to commercial developments, transport hubs, defence infrastructure, and net‑zero developments.

The Opportunity

Building services engineering is at the heart of creating sustainable, high‑performing buildings. As part of our Building Services team, you'll contribute to the design of mechanical systems that enhance building performance while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

You’ll gain exposure to all stages of project delivery, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operation.

What You’ll Do

• Support the design and specification of mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), domestic water, and public health systems.
• Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Contribute to sustainability and decarbonisation strategies, helping clients achieve net‑zero carbon targets.
• Use industry‑standard software and digital engineering tools to develop and coordinate designs.
• Work collaboratively with electrical, structural, civil, architectural, and sustainability specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, surveys, and commissioning activities.
• Assist in analysing building energy performance and identifying opportunities for improved efficiency.
• Support project planning, programme management, cost control, and client interactions.
• Develop an understanding of relevant legislation, standards, building regulations, and industry best practice.

Candidate Specification

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months’ relevant experience (excluding placements) and have a bachelors and a masters degree (obtained no earlier than 2025) or expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Building Services Engineering
• Architectural Engineering
• Energy Engineering
• Sustainable Building Design
• Building Environment Engineering
• Or a closely related discipline

This opportunity will require you to be eligible to achieve security clearance. Security clearance is dictated by the types of projects we work on and normally requires you to be a UK British national or lived in the UK for five years or more.

UK Immigration

Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. This decision is as a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024.

Our ethos is to develop, train and retain our graduates and therefore we are looking for a long‑term relationship with our graduates.
