Licensed Veterinary Technician – PRN
We are seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to support our Animal Medical Center of Fort Oglethorpe in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. The role provides dedicated, high‑quality veterinary care and operates on a PRN schedule with rotating shifts.
Position Overview
The Licensed Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing comprehensive patient care and ensuring exceptional service to patients and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.
Take vital signs, collect samples, administer medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandage and wrap wounds.
Support patient examinations and operations by assembling supplies, restraining patients, and providing assistance as directed by the veterinarian.
Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and specialized equipment usage.
Obtain and verify medications.
Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms, cages, and equipment, and observe for clinical signs of disease.
Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including documentation and security of controlled drugs.
Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, disinfecting areas, storing sterile supplies, and following legal regulations.
Document patient conditions and updates in the medical records system.
Communicate with pet owners about patient status as directed by the veterinarian.
Maintain equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs.
Maintain inventory and place orders for supplies.
Stay current with job knowledge through education and professional journals.
Release pets to owners, ensuring they are clean and groomed.
Follow oral and written directions.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
High school diploma or GED.
Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT).
At least one year of experience.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
More than one year of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
Schedule
PRN, rotating shifts.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8 AM–6 PM; Tuesday, Thursday 10 AM–8 PM; Saturday 8 AM–1 PM or 8 AM–5 PM.
