Director of Institutional Research and Data Services

About AACN The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is the national voice for academic nursing. AACN works to establish quality standards for nursing education; assists schools in implementing those standards; influences the nursing profession to improve health care; and promotes public support for professional nursing education, research, and practice. Position Summary Responsible for overseeing AACN's data collection efforts and institutional research initiatives. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the management and oversight of all activities related to AACN's Institutional Data Systems (IDS) annual survey including: Oversees database system for data collection, data security, and verification. Responsible for annual surveys on enrollment and graduations; faculty and dean salaries; faculty vacancies; employment prospects for new nurses; and other surveys as requested. Leads efforts to collect, organize, clean, validate, and analyze IDS data and ensures all reports are timely, accurate, and meaningful. Develops and oversees the production of customized reports using IDS data and creates customized reports to generate revenue. Maintains the IDS databank and assures the integrity of all IDS data. Oversees partnership agreements related to joint data collection efforts. Leads the redesign of data collection systems to ensure AACN maintains all required documentation on installation, setup, and configuration of the data collection system. Directs the development of Dashboards to display AACN data from annual surveys. Creates online surveys and assists in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data from research and/or evaluation projects. Designs and conducts various types of quantitative and qualitative research, using advanced statistical analyses and methodologies. Contributes to the development and implementation of grant and contract proposals, reports, and other efforts related to research and evaluation through writing content, preparing analysis of program performance, and providing context in terms of relevant statistics. Incorporates IDS and publicly available data into journal articles written for peer-reviewed publications. Manages ad hoc and standard customized report requests and produces analyses that are actionable and meaningful to support the needs of AACN membership and staff. Conducts other research related activities and special projects as the need arises. Requirements A doctoral degree in relevant field such as data analytics, research, statistics, and/or a related discipline is required. At least 7 years of relevant experience in data analysis and institutional research, 3 years as a supervisor, preferably in an education association and/or higher education setting. Advanced analytical and statistical techniques to include modeling, multivariate analyses, and predictive analytics. Knowledge of best practices in privacy protection, sharing of data, management of data quality and integrity, and Institutional Review Board procedures. Demonstrated experience with data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings in professional journals, as well as a proven ability to conduct high level analysis for planning, policy development, assessment, and evaluation of activities. Identify and analyze community level data, regional data, and publicly available datasets. Provide leadership to staff - hire, supervise, mentor, and ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures. Conduct performance evaluations of staff supervised, based on feedback from others, as appropriate. Guide staff in establishing goals that support AACN's strategic plan. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, flexible and collaborative, and have good interpersonal skills. Excellent ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Associate Director, Research IT Systems

Overview

The Associate Director, Research Systems and Critical Infrastructure will oversee the implementation, upgrade, system administration, integration, and maintenance of all technical infrastructure and systems that support research operations, animal life and safety, and laboratory animal business operations across multiple locations at Princeton University. This role encompasses both on-campus and off-campus facilities. The Associate Director Research Systems and Critical Infrastructure ensures that software systems, critical infrastructure, desktop support, and data analytics systems are optimized for operational efficiency, security, and regulatory compliance.

This position entails direct, hands-on management responsibilities. This technical leadership role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including OIT, research staff, facilities, building management teams, and external vendors, to implement best practices, mentor technical teams, and lead the implementation, upgrade and integration activities related to technologies in support of lab operations and compliance with all applicable animal care and research regulations.

This is a hybrid role.

Responsibilities Research Systems and Critical Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing management of critical infrastructure and systems (e.g. Huron, TOPAZ Elements, etc) that support the operation of lab animal research facilities, including animal life support, environmental control, and safety systems.
  • Manage lab animal research facility-based software solutions, including tracking, monitoring, and reporting systems for animal care, research data, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of mission-critical infrastructure, including server environments, networks, workstations, and cloud solutions.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for all critical infrastructure across multiple sites, both on-campus and off-campus.
  • Coordinate with other technical teams and stakeholders to align IT solutions with evolving business and research needs at all facilities.
  • Manage and execute software and hardware integrations with research, operations, and other campus systems to ensure seamless functionality across multiple platforms and locations.
  • Enable change management processes, ensuring that new systems, software updates, and hardware changes are thoroughly evaluated, tested, and implemented with minimal disruption to daily operations across all facilities.
  • Apply IT best practices for service delivery, system lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of critical infrastructure and software solutions across multiple facilities.
  • Review and recommend the use of new technologies and systems that may improve operational efficiency, security, or research capabilities.

Data Analytics and Business Intelligence:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of data analytics and business intelligence components of ODFR systems to provide actionable insights into lab operations, animal care, and research data.
  • Collaborate with research and facilities teams as well as other business and IT teams to gather and interpret data, improving efficiencies, compliance, and operational decisions across all facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and quality standards for data collection and reporting across multiple locations.

Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of technical professionals, providing guidance on best practices and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Manage team priorities, workflows, and resource allocation to ensure that business operations are supported, projects are completed on time and within scope, across multiple locations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with other technical teams (e.g., network administration, security, data management) and external vendors to ensure the integrity and performance of all systems supporting animal research and safety across multiple sites.
  • Work closely with facilities and building management teams across all locations to ensure that critical infrastructure meets the needs of lab research operations, including climate control, electrical systems, and other animal care support services.

Security, Regulatory and Compliance Oversight:

  • Contribute towards and actively participate in cybersecurity, vulnerability management and device management initiatives and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, with specific attention to requirements for animal research facilities.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant research standards and ensure that systems and infrastructure meet both institutional and regulatory requirements at each facility.
  • Develop and implement audit and testing procedures to verify compliance with animal safety, research, and infrastructure protocols at all University Animal Research locations.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems management, and support, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing critical infrastructure systems, ideally in a regulated research or healthcare environment.
  • Strong experience in managing systems supporting life safety, security, and compliance in animal research facilities.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with lab animal research standards, including regulatory requirements (AAALAC, USDA, FDA, IACUC).
  • Experience managing technical operations across multiple locations, both on-campus and off-campus.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of systems integration, network management, and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Expertise in software and hardware life-cycle management.
  • Proficiency with reporting and data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based frameworks for service management and change management.

Position Purpose:

Seeking a Research Assistant I to support the laboratory of Dr. Prerna Malaney (Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology and Dartmouth Cancer Center). Research Assistant I - Laboratory of Dr. Margarita Behrens

SUMMARY:

The Research Assistant I will carry out a variety of basic and specialized molecular biology techniques in support of the lab goals. Duties include brain slicing and dissection, nuclei production and sorting for multiomics analysis, protein biochemistry and image analysis. In this role, 75% of the time will be spent on funded projects and the rest on support doctoral researchers in the lab. In addition, the Research Assistant will be responsible for establishing conditions for spatial transcriptomics using MERFISH. The position is subject to training in brain slicing, nuclei production and sorting, neuronal imaging and analysis, and in specific techniques and methods in order to execute experiments that are broadly designed by the PI or postdoctoral researchers. The expectation for the Research Assistant I is to grow into an independent scientist with the ability to carry out and analyze experimental results with limited instruction for routine work. The overall goal of the research is to use epigenomics to create an atlas of the human brain at single-cell resolution.

      Applicants should have a PhD, MD/PhD, MD/MPH or MD with strong quantitative and methodologic research training in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology or related field under the larger umbrella of the Quantitative Sciences with a focus on clinical and translational science that aligns with the departments strategic initiatives. Areas of specialization may include but not limited to clinical trials, artificial intelligence and machine learning, predictive modeling, causal inference, study design, precision emergency medicine, behavioral medicine, risk assessment, cost-effectiveness and bio- and clinical informatics with a strong interest in solving problems that affect social, global, public, and population health.       The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The major criterion for appointment in the Non-Tenure Line Research is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

      The Section of Biostatistics lives within the Division of Biomedical Informatics Research in the Department of Medicine. Its mission is to develop data science infrastructure that fills critical gaps at Stanford School of Medicine and that ensures that the field of medicine advances through the practice of rigorous data science. To that end, the Biostatistics Section has established a home for the scholarship of collaborative biostatistics to advance human health through the conduct of rigorous and informative studies. We expect the successful candidate to engage primarily in collaborative research while developing an independent research agenda in the methods directly stemming from collaborative work. The candidate will lead methodological initiatives that contribute to building critical research infrastructure at Stanford and beyond, will serve as the leading quantitative scientist on collaborative initiatives, and will mentor the current and next generation of clinical and translational investigators including both clinical investigators and practicing data scientists. The candidate is expected to identify and resolve methodological issues that arise in collaborative research, as a major expectation is to develop a research program in methodological areas that will directly benefit the candidate s collaborative research.

      Criteria for the position include evidence of the potential to obtain peer reviewed research funding and excellence in collaborative biostatistics, teaching, and mentorship appropriate to fulfill the programmatic needs of the Biostatistics Section and the Quantitative Sciences Unit.
